The first 20 or so hours were just playing the game and trying to figure out what to do with no previous knowledge. After that, I farmed a lot of resources. Gaining money and unlocking new blueprints. Eventually I started reading guides on how to do this and that. Now I'm making more money than I know what to do with. I've unlocked everything and own an S class fleet fully upgraded. There's not a whole lot else to do other than find neat planets and build some nifty bases. All this was fun and all, but it makes me wonder what else is there to do.
There's always the story, but it's seriously lacking any sustenance. Go here, click a button, start a conversation, go here and help someone, ect. Maybe it gets more interesting, but right now the hardest part is just going through the tedious process in which they call a story.
Multiplayer is a thing. What are you going to do? Visit a planet and scan fauna together? When I "play" with a friend of mine. Typically we're just off doing our own little thing and talking. We've done a couple of missions together and it was a moderate experience.
It's still a decent experience and there is plenty more to do. Farming, renaming solar systems to "MAKIN THA GREEN" or renaming an animal to "Ellis Dee". Ah yes, it's the simple things in life.

Deciding to split up the game into tiers that cost up to $100 is the reason you should avoid this game. The 30-40 people I’ve spoke to about this game, including myself, all agree. This game costs too much. Back in the day a $60 game would get you a AAA title with all the bells and whistles. A GOOD developer would release a game, and it was up to the player base to make the mods/community that kept the multiplayer going forever and ever until they released a better updated version of the game entirely (see counterstrike). Now they take the mod tools away and say "we'll provide the updates thank you, now give us money" and instead the player community dies in a couple of months because no one is going to dish out a million bux.

TL;DR: The only reason I have this game is because I had a bunch of steam cash from selling a weapons in CSGO.
