Early Access Review
Chaotic game, easy to jump in the characters have a nice variety of play styles. Minor bugs some lag issues during some matches but all in all a very fun game.

I have loved me some risk of rain I never played the first one so im happy that this came out as a happy medium between RoR1 and RoR2. I have enjoyed this game immensly from learning the maps to unlocking the new characters.

10/10 this would be my game of the year if Remnant 2 hadnt come out. I love the rogue like games and I really enjoyed how they incorporated some of the better mechanics from the second game seamlessly into this one.

I have really enjoyed this game and sunk an absolute insane amount of hours considering how long i've owned the game.

This game is not without flaws or need for improvement and I don't really know previous iterations so I can only speak to the game in its current state so I will do a pro cons list below.

Pros:
Fun, This for me is really the biggest factor in the time I have put into it if I wasn't enjoying it there is no way I would rack up these hours. I love how the game plays it gives off a board game kind of vibe and considering I have played most of these hours in multiplayer with my Dad

Maps: This is also kind of a con because the map is entirely random every time so you kind of get to roll the dice on what kind of start you are getting based on the location, as I have continued to play I've learned you can adapt to any kind of start but this requires knowledge of the faction you are playing and what works and what doesn't

Neutral Factions: To me this is actually a great thing to add to the game it makes it feel more true to the Warhammer environment everything is trying to kill you and despite your best efforts the game finds a way to kill off your units.

Balance: I am still working my way up in AI difficulty but from what I have played of 4 factions they all have strengths and weaknesses.

Factions: While I am talking about factions mad props to there being 8 playable factions (With DLC) This level of factions is on almost on par with the original warhammer dawn of war franchise where in the last expansion you had 9 choices of faction. I will say even without the DLC there is a nice variety in the factions and I think you can slowly add DLC overtime to spice up life a little bit OR fun fact if the person you are playing with has purchased all the DLC you at the very least gain access to the additional units locked behind some of the cheaper DLCs. This could also fall under a con if you arent looking for a game with additional paid content.

Mod Support: I haven't used any mods for this game yet but I think any game that supports mods is a plus

Cons:
Learning Curve: This game doesn't really have a great tutorial so this is a game you learn through trial and error. I would say I have played a few factions a lot but I am still learning different ways to play them and once a new faction is thrown in or some of the DLC additions it can change the landscape of the faction entirely, okay I am overselling it a little bit the game has a great tool tip system and you can look through pretty much any piece of information in game. But I just wanted to highlight that it really isnt the easiest game to start.

Time: These matches last HOURS and that isnt even an exaggeration I played the tutorial for 3 hours before I ultimately won against the standard AI. I would say the biggest factor in the time is that it is a turn based style game and in addition to you and the other AI taking turns the neutral factions take turns as well granted it all happens at the same time.

If I could make a suggested improvement for this game I would like to suggest:
This game needs more accessibility options, specifically a color blind mode and I would like to see being able to adjust the color schemes of certain things e.g The color of neutral factions or the color used to separate elevation, if you play Orange this can become damn near invisible when a unit is in the space xD

TLDR: 10/10 4x Strategy game. So if I had to summarize I am having a great time playing this game, I wish I could get all the DLC right now but it will be a slow build up, this game has been great to play against AI with my Dad even though I spent the first 30-40 hours teaching him how the game works.

Edit: It's such a small thing as well but being able to rename your units so good!

TLDR: Overall this was a great pick up and really nails both the RPG and RTS elements to it. The story can be immersive the music is incredible and I can't wait to try out the other games and the co-op element as well. The puzzles are well thought out and engaging which is really refreshing and unexpected for this type of game.

Background:
I came into Spellforce 3: Fallen God with literally no previous experience from the franchise, I thought this was a new standalone game coming out and the story looked interesting so I picked it up. I would like to clarify this is a Standalone DLC for Spellforce 3. After playing I will be picking up the original and the other standalone DLC as well.

Gameplay:
I really enjoy the feel of this game it gives me OG Warcraft3 vibes and I really enjoy that.
The Hero units get to be incredibly strong and it is fun trying to create builds with them I already know I will be replaying and trying out different skill trees.

The economy system is easy you don't have to manage too many resources and the game introduces the new ones to you steadily, which I think helps because too much too fast can be overwhelming.

The only real CON I have for gameplay is that some of these missions require a lot of multitasking and the AI is not very forgiving however with co-op as an option that CON can be a PRO where the AI makes you work for it. I do like that the co-op lets you assign roles say you didn't want to control the heros well you dont have to. Economy maintenance boring? let your partner do it.

Oh man the puzzles, the puzzles are so much fun and challenging or maybe I am just a dumb idiot, there is one puzzle that took me around an hour of brainstorming to solve it was much more then matching colors but I don't want to spoil the fun you will know the one when you get there xD or you breeze through it and not at all struggle like I did.

Story: No Spoilers
Again I know nothing of the Spellforce universe but god I love the story and characters within it. The voice acting for this game is A+++++ it just draws you in and you become invested in the developments of this small tribe.

I also want to add the ambiance of the game is incredible the music can really set the tone even if you are just in your tribe camping breaking down weapons.

Early Access Review
Risk of Rain is as complicated as you make it, this game can just be a fun time killer with your friends or it can be a never ending hunt to unlock everything and find the best builds. The core game play is fun and they are still updating the game which is always a plus. As far as gameplay goes its pretty fun, Its essentially a wave survival game admittedly the matches can easily go into the hour mark. I have managed 47 hours in the 2 weeks ive owned this game and I dont plan on stopping anytime soon. The player base is friendly and will help you out. If I had to say one negative it would be finding a full group of 4 in the quick match is a rarity this is more of a minor thing because it scales based off players so it would make it harder but its very typical to play 2-3 players.

(Update) This game deserves a steam award
Double Update:
Adding an updated review with the additional 100 hours I put in, So in my initial review I was worried about not getting a full team now that I understand more of the items and builds that work I can confidently say you can solo this game and still have fun ive actually ended up enjoying the solo grind more then trying to match in with randoms. I think the biggest strength of this game is that you can just boot up play some jams and have some fun. I am very excited for the void DLC and im sure it will keep me plenty busy with new easter eggs, items, monsters and levels to play on

I have very much enjoyed this game, if I could say anything negative about it I think maybe that not everything is viable at the hardest difficulties but that is kind of how these games go you using something that is strong until you run into a boss or area that doesn't work with what you are running. I enjoy the boss fights and none of them are difficult beyond reason the story is fun and the worlds vary every time you start over and there are different ways to end certain encounters or you might even come across a side quest that gives you something awesome.

Updated Review 2923: Well I have put way more time into this game now and think I can better assess its worth. I still enjoy this game very much and enjoy the survival mode added with the swaps of corsus DLC. The new zone, story bosses and weapons are all really sweet additions and feel really good to use. I have spent many an hour trying to get everything in the game and with the addition I still have a ways to go there is something fun about going through and encountering new items or interactions and getting something that perfectly brings together a build. I still highly recommend this game for casual and hardcore gamers alike it's a culmination of the good stuff and shouldn't disappoint.

After many computer changes and having to redownload the game and even play it through microsoft games (Ew) This game still holds the test of time the multiplayer is still fun now as it was then and they even recently added a new hero to play. The campaign is still that rush to terminator as fast as you can while getting the best rating you could achieve. VS AI is actually really hard they rush you pretty solidly and cosistently. I love this game 10/10 all day everyday
