Since October 2023, the developers of Mobile Suit Gundam Battle Operation 2 removed the Group Sortie feature from the Rating Match (Ranked Mode) — a feature that previously allowed players to form parties of 2–6 and play ranked together.

The intention was to reduce frustration among solo players who often had to face coordinated teams using voice chat. While that reasoning made sense at the time, more than a year has passed, and it’s clear that many players now want Group Sortie to return.

Ranked Mode Has Become Less Engaging
The removal of Group Sortie led many players — especially those who enjoyed playing competitively with friends or their clans — to abandon ranked mode altogether. They’ve moved on to Quick or Custom Matches instead. What’s left in ranked are mostly solo players, and communication is nearly nonexistent.

This lack of teamwork has made matches feel random and disconnected, reducing both the competitive spirit and the overall enjoyment of the mode.

Decline in Clan Activities and Viewership
Many Gundam communities, including those on Discord, have seen noticeable drops in organized events and clan activities. Ranked mode used to be a central place where clans could play and grow together. Without Group Sortie, those opportunities have disappeared. Streamers have also reported a decline in ranked content viewership — with some experiencing a drop of over 30%.

No Real Improvement in Match Quality
Ironically, even after restricting players to solo queue, the goal of achieving more balanced or fairer matches hasn’t been met. Match quality remains inconsistent. Players still encounter teammates who don’t communicate, don’t coordinate, or are unfamiliar with the current meta. The idea of a purely “skill-based” ranked system has not materialized in practice.
