I bought this game two months ago and since then there hasn't been one day where I didn't think about it. I not only managed to complete it in less then two weeks, but proceeded to buy all sequels and the first Investigations game for IOS and furthermore acquired an old IPhone for the sole purpose of playing said sequels. So yeah, one could say I liked the Pheonix Wright: Ace Attorney Trilogy.
It's strange, because it's a game of law and there's so much going on that's anything but lawful. The whole premise of trials having to be completed in three days or less is ridiculous, the fact that the judge literally understands nothing isn't any better and, like someone on YouTube summarized it, it isn't "innocent until proven guilty" or even "guilty until proven innocent" but rather "guilty until someone else is proven guilty beyond the shadow of a doubt". But that's the charm of it. The whole experience of playing Ace Attorney is about laughing because everything is so unreal that it's hilarious. The characters are, without exception, eccentric and often limited to very few character traits. But you learn to either love or hate those. Of course, there are filler characters, but there are also a lot of reoccurring characters who experience a lot of character development and whose problems and struggles grow on you.
And, oh, the feeling when you've finally understood what the whole case is about and you're about to throw it into the smug prosecutor's face! Because, although there are of course better and worse cases, most of them do have a very good plot and are creating a lot of suspense. And there are always a ton of surprising and at times shocking turnabouts in every case, most of which I didn't predict (and for those I did foresee: It's also good to be proven right, isn't it?).
I've covered the characters and the plot and while those were the reason why I bought the game initially, I feel like I also have to compliment the music. Because it's good. The important characters all have at least one theme and of course there are special pieces for the courtroom or the investigations, too. Some of them are tragic, some happy, some change their meaning, and some I will never forget (That stupid badger!). Interestingly, my impression of the overall cases was influenced by the music. When I didn't like the music, I didn't like the case as much as I might have either. And even when I didn't enjoy the case much, good music always helped a bit to redeem it.

TL;DR: Even if you're absolutely not into visual novels, play this game. It has some of the most memorable characters and some of the most tragic stories I've ever seen in a video game. And the music is an added bonus!
