This game kicks other AAA games to the dirt, a live service coop shooter where new content is actual content, everything can be earned in-game in a reasonable amount of time, and the game looks and feels unique. I couldn't recommend this game more, these types of devs need to be supported against the rise of corporatism we face in our online spaces. The vast majority of randoms are chill people, I've met friends in both the first helldivers and this one. The flaws of this game are few and far between, and the call to defend our citizens reaches far!

This game is another multi-directional medieval combat game, with a more arcadey feel than its competitors. When the game first released, it was not well received due to the fact the game was P2P instead of having dedicated servers; no doubt a tactic to cut costs from Ubisoft. P2P was simply unacceptable for a competitive multiplayer game due to how easy it is to set up lag switches and other unwanted cheating methods. From the beginning, the game had a critical issue that was affecting almost every match, from connection issues to crashes on the majority of new matches. Despite these constant concerns, it took Ubisoft just over a FULL YEAR to rectify the issue.

Of course, the community was very vocal about these concerns and Ubisoft was very aware of the P2P issue as well as balancing issues and numerous bugs and glitches that players were utilizing in order to win unfairly. Early after the game's release, a $10,000 tournament for the game was held and won by a man that utilized one of said bugs; "unlock tech". The glitch made certain attacks come out unreactably fast and impossible to parry or defend against. The man laughed as he took his prize and even said he hadn't played the game for 2 weeks before the tournament, saying "he didn't think it was going to be this easy". Ubisoft was a laughing stock, but it still took them over a month to fix the issue.

These 2 examples are largely representative of how Ubisoft has dealt with problems plaguing the game, despite constant complaining from the community. The game will never be perfect, but it's certainly much farther than it could be and will remain that way for one simple reason.

Ubisoft's focus is to make money. They are a company, after all, and they have to fill their monthly quotas just like anyone else. However, their solution to this revolves around slowly creating more content with the minimal possible effort while the community is constantly telling them to stop making more problems and just fix the game as it is. Ubisoft throws in a rework here and there to keep everyone quiet, but never make a dedicated effort to improve core balancing issues within the game. As a result, newer characters have noticeably worse animations, and updated ones as well. The new raider moves at inhuman speed, and black prior looks like he's moving through syrup.

Certain attacks in the game are quite literally unpunishable by most characters, and are completely safe to throw out and difficult for an opponent to react to. Some of these attacks include Shinobi's kick and Black Prior's shield bash. Shinobi's kick is completely safe because he can backflip backwards immediately after it, whether he lands it or not. This backflip retreats him beyond the range of almost any attack in the game, and comes out immediately after the kick ends. So he can literally do it over and over again against most of the cast and there is nothing they can do to defend themselves. The kick is completely uninterruptible as well, so you can't cancel it either. As for Black Prior, his bash comes out in 400ms making it difficult to dodge for anyone, and impossible to dodge if the Black Prior has ping above 150. If you dodge his bash, he can immediately go into his all-guard mode which he can use to punish any attack in the game except for a guardbreak, which you can't throw out quickly enough after a dodge to catch him. His all-guard comes out faster than any dodge attack in the game, except gladiator's dodge bash which deals no damage. His guardbreak vulnerability recovers faster than you can throw one out after a dodge, so it's impossible to punish the bash for any character in the game, even if you successfully dodge it. Black Priors can use this move over and over and over with no repercussions, and no risk to themselves. this has not been fixed since Black Prior came out on January 31st, which as of writing this has been 169 days. About a third of the cast of characters are strictly better than the others, with more damage, mixups, and offensive and defense options.

More examples of lazy dev work include terrible tutorials that literally feed you wrong information about optimal punishes, a half-assed arcade mode they added to powder up Marching Fire, and a lack of information for new players in general. If you want to know how to play the game, going online isn't just recommended, its required.

So what's good about the game? The gameplay and customization can certainly be satisfying, especially if you really mesh with a certain character. The simple nature of predicting your opponent and responding perfectly is fun, and many characters have high combo potential that you can use to fight off multiple people at once. Many characters have gimmicks that can be fun to play with, but there are certain moves in the game that leave you little to no options to respond, and can be extremely frustrating to deal with. However, changing these mechanics create new problems of their own, which is largely why the devs don't make major changes. This is what I mean when I say the game is inherently flawed; there are no ways to fix core issues within the game without new ones arising.

For example, the revenge mechanic. When you are attacked by multiple people at the same time, you can simply be stunlocked to death and there is nothing you can do; especially with certain moves that lock you in place like Raider's charge or Shugoki's hug. The mechanic that counters this is called revenge, which builds over time as you fight multiple people and then can be activated once the bar is filled. Revenge gives you massive buffs, such as a generously large temporary health pool, increased damage, hyper armor on most of your attacks, your guardbreaks go through guardbreak invulnerability, your parries and throws knock people down, and any attacks that hit you as you activate revenge result in a knockdown for your opponents. Revenge gives you the power to fight multiple people at once, which gives power back to the player. However, lets say you are the one teaming up on one guy. He's turtling up so that he can get revenge, and you are trying to get through his defense but the only way to do so are with guardbreaks and unblockables, which feed lots of revenge. So there's no way to kill him as long as he blocks anything you throw at him which is very easy. And revenge can be activated instantly, so if he gets it after you've started your attack you get knocked down and your opponent gets loads of damage off of the knockdown punish. So you die if you're under half health. Now defensive players have too much power, but if you give characters better attacks then people complain that they can't do anything to defend themselves. It's inherently flawed, and there will never be a balance that feels right.

I have never put so much time into a game that I would genuinely not recommend. It simply isn't worth it. The game has so many issues that the devs refuse to address, which are apparent in every match you play. This game will never be better than it is in its current state, as the devs have shown us in the above examples.

The other good part of the game, the customization, requires dozens of hours on one character if you even want to scratch the surface, due to the massive amounts of experience and in-game currency required to unlock it. Of course, in classic AAA game fashion, you can always buy XP boosters and steel if you don't have time. Yet another scummy attempt to squeeze out as much money with minimal effort. There's also a 15 minute matchmaking penalty if you leave a game, yet another classic example of dealing with issues in the worst way possible.

This game is and will always be riddled with issues that are apparent and frustrating in every match, with little to no communication from the devs about their plans for the future of the game. While the customization and actual gameplay can be very satisfying, it ultimately is more trouble then it's worth.

This game had a pretty terrible launch. Like ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥. However, with updates and support from the devs it improved drastically. The bullet sponge is really not bad, hardly an issue at all. Powerful weapons can one-shot enemies at or even higher than your level, and other ones get the job done quickly and effiecently. Graphics are great, really captures a great city vibe and the minimalist UI looks nice and displays everything you need. The story is ok, but who plays Ubisoft RPG's for the story lol. I personally really enjoy the cover based combat, as the enemy AI is pretty good and will have people pin you down whilst others move to flank you. I was also really surprised at the end of the game once I beat it, as I assumed that would be it. however, the shops change daily, and there are daily missions and challenges as well as large end game goals to keep you coming back for more. The game is challenging in general and very enjoyable, I highly recommend.

This game is a great throwback to the classic xcom. It is fairly buggy, but luckily there are plenty of mods that improve gameplay. I personally disabled psionics because There is basically no way to fight it, but that is my one problem. Commander, prepare to get absolutely DE_Stroyed.

Hint: dont try to play this game like xcom EU, EW, or 2. It is completely different.

This game is deep and fun to play, espescially if you like getting attached to your little colonists and inevitably watch them get stabbed, gunned down, die of malaria, toxic fallout, burnt to a crisp, eaten by giant insects, panthers, lions, wargs, and even get struck by ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ lightning. You'd think that they would have a stiff upperlip about all this, no? But instead they bicker and complain and do the stupidest thing like shoot at their friends for a dirt stain on the floor, or being woken up early. The game is fun, incredibly challenging, but the ramp-up is a little bit unfair. I'm at the stage to where I'm building the ship up, my colonists dying one by one to insanely ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ random things, like everyone getting sick or mechtoids dropping in through the roof. My defenses are outstanding, lined with autoturrets and ten colonists, most of them great shots and armed with charge rifles. and yet, the game finds ways to slowly kill the colony bit by little bit. Prepere for the worst, but it doesn't matter. You live or die by the RNG

Great game. Excellent gameplay, Upgrade system, fleet controls. The game only needs more missions and general content, and I would love the ability to directly control larger ships, even though I would spend 90% of my time in a fighter.

This game provided me and my friends a great time. HOWEVER, I only recommend this game if you have people to play it with, either online or locally. Otherwise, it's not worth it. Great fun though. Wait for a sale.
