Early Access Review
Other people have posted really good explanations of core gameplay issues, balance issues, usability issues, and what needs to be done to fix a game with a really interesting concept, art style and universe.

As someone who has beaten Hyperlight Drifter multiple times, and unlocked almost all the secrets it has to offer, I'm really sad I can't recommend this in current state.

I wish I'd gotten to struggle through and beat a few bosses, but I can't even do that. The graphical stutters (I have an RTX 4090 and a 9800x3d, 64gb ram at 6400ghz so it's not my pc) are unacceptable, I've gotten caught on unfinished geometry and had to abandon two runs now because of an inability to dislodge myself, and now I just jumped into a hole that apparently I can't get out of. Procedurally generated needs to account for not allowing players to softlock themselves in a run. There's just a lot unfinished about this and it needs work to reach where it needs to be.

The game is beautiful, but it needs work before I can play it as a game rather than as a demo of what's (hopefully) to come. I'll revisit in 6 months or so and update this review accordingly.

Wake up, run around, die, repeat. Rust is fantastic if you're willing to put up with a bit of frustration.
