Man... This game. Its a game that can be finished in 3 hours or under if you're no stupid and bad at games like me, but man is it worth it. The story's nice and well paced. The characters were intriguing etc, all the standard praises that you can give a good game.

But I want to get into specifics and spoilers here so if you don't want to read spoilers then just know this: Play the game. It's short, the designs are interesting and the plot will get you hooked.

This game is very reminiscent to me of the first time that I played Undertale. The mystery that enraptures you as you progress through the game. The wonderful character designs and beautiful soundtrack and pixel art. Like Undertale, this game just oozes character and polish. And the only boss fight we get in the game can be difficult but does not feel unfair.

The backstory of a Miss Knive's at the end of the game was well executed as well. The salem witch trial story was extremely interesting as well as how it was revealed she was just a cloth. Despite her design being extremely reminiscent of one So was Lacie's. The revealing of her backstory through the usage of dreams may be a tired trope, but it was well executed here and the few dream segments actually felt well woven into the story.

Lacie's character was interesting and her interactions with both the demons that you meet and Sai was also very well done. Her character progression through the story (namely her interactions with Sai) felt natural and well paced. I enjoyed her small reactions to the other demons. I do also find it interesting that Miss Knives refers to her as Lilith though

Sai's character was suitably mysterious even after we first meet him on the bus. And despite him only appearing halfway through the game, I still grew attached to him. Notably, as we don't get as much screen time with him his mysteriousness is ramped up even further. I still believe he's Red based on his actions in the ending cutscene

And the secondary cast was also interesting, from Rune to Alba to Aoi. All of them felt right in place even though they have very little screentime. Although I do wish that some of them were expanded upon.

Many of the "Dead Ends" were suitably scary, and the possibility to encounter them in a regular playthrough was well placed and adds to the horror. They felt well placed and whilst encountering them did make sense, it was also at times a stroke of luck.

The background art and level design were complex enough that it made the world feel natural. The forest, despite looking like the average RPGM forest design in the walls still looked natural enough that it was believable.

Only while writing this did I realize, this game is also very reminiscent of Ib. With the whole two protagonists and general theming it feels like a well executed mashup of many different RPGM horror games with an interesting and original plot. It draws inspiration in just the right places and feels wholly original whilst also paying tribute to those that came before.

My only nitpicks, other than it is too short, is that the game feels like it has next to no relation to it's "prologue" except for an appearance of Kat in the post credit scene of the game . The bolded text of there is always another way is not quite as applicable as I feel that it could be, I do understand though that adding too many of these another way areas would make the game bloated and feel lost. However I feel that these will probably be expanded on in future chapters.

Overall Leef 6010 has made a fantastic game with a well written story and simple yet sweet mechanics that make sense. The graphics are well stylized and fits the narrative and the overall polish of the game is quite high,

Since people like ratings, i'll give this a 9.5/10. I honestly haven't felt this strongly the urge to review a game since i played Hue. Compared to Project Kat, which felt just like a demo to this game, Leef 6010 has really stepped up their game.

Can't wait to play chapter 2 and see where they take their ideas from here.

This game was an amazing experience. The color switching idea is unique and very well done. Despite the slightly bland story, it was decent enough for me to be kept engaged. The controls were well done, the puzzles made sense and the platforming was decently challenging and was very fair.

Honestly, the game half deserves a sequel that at least uses a similar color changing concept due to how unique it is and the possibilities that exist with this game.

This game is just so well polished as a platformer and does it's single core mechanic so well that there isn't much to comment on. I have very few major gripes with this game. Even the backtracking which is one of my banes in platformers feels well done and made sense, as you unlock all of the colors as you go along. Allowing you to access more collectables and watching the town slowly become more vibrant was rewarding enough.

Speaking on the town and backgrounds, the background and character art meshes well. All of the objects in the world feel well placed and don't break immersion at all. The art style also blends in well with the core color switching mechanic of this game. Making the whole world feel cohesive and well put together alongside the main character.

Despite me having received this game for free when they were handing it out to people I would pay full price for this game, no matter how short it is. It's Worth it.

Overall: 9/10. So sad that there aren't more games utilising this style with these mechanics.
