I'm a casual player, older but not yet dead. This game is unlike any other I've played, so much so, that it can be confusing and annoying and exhilarating, all at the same time. It can be enjoyed solo, though some areas really require a team and it can be enjoyed with friends or with pick up groups. It exists and runs in phases they call 'seasons'. It can be very daunting to understand that part of it, but the gameplay itself is fun and interesting and each phase has challenges that build off the phases and things you learned before.

Beware that it's a little buggy because, honestly, it is cram packed with STUFF! Events and challenges that are weekly as well as seasonal, reward systems and loot boxes that I don't really approve of since they are a gamble with really awful chance stats, though there is quite a lot in the way of costuming you can outright buy with in-game currency and/or cash.

It depends on how you wish to play, really. It's free... it's not difficult if an old lady like me can master it, and it's fun... it's really fun! I've enjoyed the past three seasons and have started the fourth. I don't PVP though there are PVP servers where you can gank to your heart's content. There are normal and harder servers once you've learned the ins and outs in a novice season. Lots of people are willing to help, to give advice, and to guide you if you really do want to play, so. give it a try. Can't really lose much but a little time.

So far, it's in a much better place than Beta, and the first iterations. I'm really enjoying myself this time, taking my time and exploring each realm, every realm, not rushing, not pushing, just... experiencing. It's pretty darned cool.
EDIT: October, 2024. I played through the game before this current update where the realms have been rebuilt. I cannot seem to get past the initial abeyance realm this time. It's as if, we've been cut off at the knees... no longer the wonder I found before and the dreams and wish to go further are just not there. I can't put my finger on why this is so, yet I'm sad beyond measure and feel that there is something important I've totally missed, totally gone past and can't seem to find to retrieve. I don't know how to review it any more. I have no words.

So, I thought, cool! A game to play with the Grandkids! Then, I discovered that it's FUN! It's freaking FUN! I did NOT expect fun. I did NOT expect to actually enjoy this sort of game since I'm a die-hard, survival, hard-mode kinda grandma, but... it's FUN! *wanders off shaking head*

I'm having fun playing with friends, though, the solo game is a bit harder than I'd call 'fun'. it's quite possible, but yeah... rough. Co-Op play, while still needs some work for quest progression, is lots of fun. Give it a try and understand that the game is a work in progress. Nicely done!

Edit: Following update.. Wow, just, wow! I will say that I've been privileged to be part of a very large number of beta tests, worked with alpha games, and early access games, and Enshrouded is, by far and away, the most polished early access game I've experienced. Kudos to the developers! Their hard work shines in this lovely game. Do NOT miss the chance to experience this gem and watch it grow!

So, let me begin by saying that I played the demo version and enjoyed it so much that I was really looking forward to release. I have not been disappointed at all! I find the game to be very calming and introspective. The stories are intriguing and, though sometimes sad, they reflect beautifully against the backdrop of our premise of rebuilding from ashes a world that, we hope, will be better in the future.

The game play is not as intuitive as I'd prefer, but it's getting better as I go. The tutorials are nice, but sometimes leave you hanging where, I SHOULD have been reading the journal to learn what to do next, but get so caught up in everything that I neglect doing that so wind up missing what I should have been doing to squirrel away over in another area and totally lose track. Well, that's me anyway, so it's not really a con to the game. The fact is that I am learning to refer to the journal much more often and it's vastly improved everything.

I still despise the hammer and nail since, any latency at all, and you will fail, often. The wrench... I will one day understand the wrench but, for now, I am getting it to work so there's that. The shovel is WONDERFUL, thank you developers! I miss being able to pick up and move the containers around but the little train thingy was very nice, and I really enjoyed using that. Large equipment and I are getting along a bit better, but I will say that the way inertia works intrigues the heck out of me. Be aware that cranes can and do flip quite spectacularly! EDIT* This has been repaired significantly over the past few updates. The game just gets better and better which I very much appreciate!

Mostly, though, take your time and explore every little niche and cranny, find every collectible and read them! Thank you for a wonderful game!

I really enjoyed this preview. It was gentle, calm and peaceful, yet reminded me of the tragedy that war brings to everyone. I look forward to the completion of the game and hope to continue at that time.

I found the controls to be quite good once I figured out what I was doing. The only beef I have is with the hammer/nail function... that can just go hang... awful. Everything else, including the boat handling, was spot on and I did the missions twice since, the first time around, I failed to actually read my journal and never even found the bulldozer until I had knocked every wall down with my hammer... dweeb. It was worth the extra time spent, though, since I got to build two different buildings and found both to be enjoyable.

Painting and the scaffolding work are interesting to say the least and FAR easier once you figure out that holding down the left mouse button rather than just continuously clicking it, works much better. Anyway, it's worth the price, at the moment... Free is good! Thank you!

So many ways to enjoy this little game... peaceful, drifting, collecting, gathering with occasional bouts of puzzles and gentle combat all the way up to crazy, difficult and scary. Any way you choose to play, the story is compelling, the puzzles are not so intricate that you get frustrated, and, unless you just totally HATE time management and multi-tasking, you will enjoy this experience. Be warned, however, that the need to multi-task and keep constant vigilance both against Bruce (your ever constant shark 'companion'), the bird-bombers from hell, seagulls and other nasty stuff, and in the care of your plants, animals, raft, and surroundings can get overwhelming if you're not prepared. Just breathe, and head for the stream if you need a break. Move with the wind and gather and do a bit of building and relax. Lovely days.

Beautifully done, a perfect balance between calming and utterly terrifying. I have enjoyed every moment... well, being eaten wasn't that fun, but all the other moments were spectacular! Thank you!

At 23 hours, now. People are talking about bugs but, even with my fairly mid-lower end rig, this game is beautiful! I don't find bugs so much as I find that it's not as intuitive as I'd wish and, sometimes, feels a bit clunky. I do believe, though, that's because there is so much that has to be managed! Anyway, that's my opinion. However, Witcher 3 was the same for me. I really had to work at learning the combat, the way perks work and this one has hacking and driving, as well! I am a sucky driver in anyone's book, but I'm getting the hang of hacking and getting better at the combat. The story is spectacular! Twists and turns that I'm so glad I had no idea were going to happen ahead of time... it's just... go play.
