This one is a pure joy to explore. Turn up the heat! Build up the pressure. Then watch the rain fall, waters flow, and life spring forth. Now is your chance to play god and see if you can do any better. Mess it up and who knows what will happen. Potential is this games base code.

Love this game (as you can tell by the almost 3000 hours played) but modded adds both play-ability and lifespan. Base game is good for a few hundred hours but can wear on your nerves with the little irritations. Bethesda mods available from the launcher menu can help and add hundreds more hours. Nexus Mods can alter the game so much that you can make it your own or a mix of other peoples ideas. Play-through's can be very different if you make them different with your actions and responses to the story and NPC's. Do a story line play-through, a building play-through, and then mod it to be a silly play-through. The options are almost endless.

Definite sandbox appeal with a dash of story line thrown in. Think "a large prime cut of space exploration meat, slathered in a glaze of workshop sauce, with a touch of Minecraft for good measure. I have hours invested in just spawning and exploring workshop blueprints in world and marveling at what works and what doesn't.

Cons list is short, the flight characteristics in "atmo" and out could use a gyroscope, and a delete button in creative mode would be a blessing when deciding to nix a build or bad spawn.

Overall it has been a fun way to pass time and I don't regret it at all.

It is the quintessential space exploration, trade, and combat game. Still growing, it is everything the original game hoped to be and so much more. It doesn't hold your hand like a linear game or a standard storyteller game but more like Eve online were you decide what you want to do and who you want to be.

I received the free anniversary edition of "Company of Hero's 2" (all 24.9 gigs to download). I was thinking I would give it a go, only to find out there are 77 DLC's ranging from USD 1.99 to USD 14.99 for little add on's like the type of forces to deploy and camo patterns for a vehicle class. Or to play as any other country involved other than German or Soviet.

Want to play a British Commander USD 3.99 but then you have to choose are they a Vanguard, Tactical, or Special Weapons Commander. Because you only get to choose one for that USD 3.99.

The phrase "nickel-and-dimed to death" comes to mind. However, this is not what halted my extensive use of the game, ever if did influence it to a small degree. I for one do not want to be forced to play as a "Man" when I am not even male. I will however ignore that for a historically inspired game were "Women" were not in that position of authority. But when I have to pay extra to play on the side of my own country that was involved in the history that inspired the game, that is just a bit too much for this chic.
Sorry I will pass on this "FREE" game and go back to being the General of the Minute Men and crush some Raider skulls in Fallout 4.
Sorry SEGA and Relic Entertainment I will spend my nickel and dime's someplace else. I am opting for Bethesda because they do Chic-in right.
