Came to check out the update.

Awful - avoid this, same broken game, but with added spite.

UI is consolised - can't fix it on PC. Aspect ratio is changed - can't fix it on PC. Graphics massively downgraded - can't fix it on PC.

They really just said screw you to the PC player base and went all in on PC. Those poor console players will quickly see the reality when the shiny new wears off and there is no end game content again. Why keep relaunching the same game OVER AND OVER, with no end game, just a rehashed early game. Its very poor. Meanwhile PvP is still unfinished, that COULD have been their best feature.

Also, you NEED to pay real money for the expansion or this is dead in the water for you - tough luck.

Again, I would avoid.

Pretty disappointing - I have thousands of hours in HOI, EU4 and Stellaris. This is BEYOND bare bones - bugs aside in the first patch (and still in the hot fixes) this is just an empty vessel for them to sell DLC. There is NOTHING to do in this game apart form instant war with silly mana points. They took the worst elements of previous games and made THOSE the focus. And the UI is god awful. Map is cool though, but this is by far the worst Paradox release in memory - and I was there for HOI4's crapshow.

Avoid for at least 12-18 months, maybe then they will have fixed it. Most likely they will have just added £200 of DLC to "fix" it.

Early Access Review
Squad is not your typical FPS. This development team started out as a community game creating a mod, simply to make the game that they wanted to play - Project Reality. Using the BF2 engine they accomplished some unbelievable things. BUT times change and that engine got old. So, fast forward to 2015 and here we are, with the Alpha release of Squad.

Already it plays better than most AAA titles. More realistic than BF4, prettier than insurgency, more accessible and less clunky than ArmA, and with more teamwork than all of those combined.

Currently it focuses on infantry combat, and does a pretty damn epic job. Within the next few weeks we will see things change massively with the introduction of vehicles to the mix. Engagement ranges will change, teamwork will improve and coordination will be needed to win. As usual the best place to play is on the tacticalgamer.com server which has a primer and ruleset established over a decade ago to get the most realistic and fun experience out of this game. They have a history in PR second to none and it looks set to continue into Squad.

Try this out - I can no recommend it enough. If you are sick of generic COD/BF games and want something more, and to really communicate and feel like you achieved something, try out Squad.
