Thimbleweed Park is an very well polished game. Do not be turned off by the fact it was a Kickstarter game. Ron Gilbert of Monkey Island fame was one of the primary designers of the game. It is clear that while the gameplay style is an older varity his experiences in game design have been advantage of with newer technologies to produce challanging puzzles intergrated well into the games main story.

Often point and click adventure games stuggle with smoothly intergrating story into puzzle design. This has lead to older games having some, odd requirements, to solve puzzles. I did not feel like I encoutered this at all.

That game also has an interesting feature for hints if you are unable to decipher the games clue. The game features an ingame phone system allowing you to call a few different ingame characters and have conversations. They used part of this feature to build an in game "hint line".

You pick up the phone and dial the number for the hint line. The game will then contextually pick up on where you are in the game's story and provide hint options on what you might need help with. The hints start off gradually soft. They dont want to ruin the puzzles for you completely. This is useful so that you know if you are head in the right direction. You can keep pressing for a more detailed hint. The game will break the puzzle down for you more and more making it clear what you need to do.

I recommend that you only do this if you are truly lost however. The hint line was built after the game was completed. You are essitnatlly ruining the game experience if you do.

The one big complaint i have about the game is that the game 4th walls at the end and tells you you need to watch the kickstarter video for a hint to beat the game I did find that gimmick a little interesting. if the video becomes unavailable however it will ruin the gimmick.


Anyways, I enjoyed this game very much. If you are looking for more games like Monkey Island or even just to try something new overall. This is a good pick.
