An excellent sequel and spiritual successor to the first Risk of Rain. The translation from 2D to 3D is done so well that you'd be forgiven for thinking it's an easy jump (it's not). If you liked the first one and are comfortable with third person gameplay and controls, it is definitely worth the money.

A smash clone with a very clear cut meta. The learning curve starts steep but evens out once you figure out attack strings and movement. You can find success with nearly every strategy, and there's a weapon to suit everyone's playstyle. I've already put in over 500 hours and I'm only now learning how to competently use some of the more complicated combo/string-based weapons.

If you're willing to put in the time to learn, it's really fun and rewarding because of its simple yet involved mechanics. If you aren't, it still makes for an enjoyable party game to fool around in with friends. Toxicity is noticeable in the 1v1 online playlists, but it's generally pretty easy to ignore (especially if you stay out of that particular lobby).

It's really difficult to put down in words my feelings on Terraria. It was bought for me by a friend who owned it after I told him I'd play with him, but I couldn't afford it at the time. He put down the 10 bucks almost instantly. I was floored. That is, until I started to play with him. It was, at the time, like nothing I had played before. It's an open world, two-dimensional, action adventure game with a large learning curve and (debatably) an even larger difficulty curve.

The game is "linear" in that there's a clear path to accomplish every goal you want to achieve. You want to progress in the game? Mine new ores. Get a new pickaxe. Mine more ore. Get more pickaxes. What do you do when you run out of new metals to discover? You start to explore, and you fight a big ol' boss or two. You get new gear. Fight another boss. Explore more areas that were previously either inhospitable to you or were inaccessible. Get MORE gear. Go to HELL. Mine metal you find under pools of lava. Make better gear. Fight ANOTHER boss, and THEN you're in hardmode.

You just began the main part of the game. After, most likely, 3 hours+ of game time. Then and ONLY THEN does your REAL adventure start. And that part of the game wasn't even around when I first started playing with my friend. I played in the dark ages when the most challenging part of the game was the easy mode dungeon, and even then I spent hours upon hours building structures, adventuring, and perfecting my character. Now there's so much more to do.

Years have gone by, and I've bought this game for several of my other friends. I've done about all I can do with the current state of the game several times over. I've farmed kills on Duke Fishron, built cities, sculpted the world to fit my desires, and more. Play the game.

I know I'm going to be putting even more hours into this game when the devs release the next update. More than the 400+ hours I already have. Get it when it's on sale for 2 bucks. Get it when it's not on sale for 10 bucks. Either way your cash will be well spent. I mean TWO DOLLARS for THIS MUCH content is absolutely absurd.

10/10 would get this game for free and give out copies I paid for to my friends again

2020 EDIT: This game has only gotten better with time. So much more end game content has been released, two new difficulties have been released, and there's so much more to do. Maybe pick it back up again if you haven't played it in a while. And don't forget that the wiki isn't cheating if you don't know what to do next. ;)

Another clicker game, but this time without background progression, inventiveness, or any sort of feeling of reward or satisfaction. The progress you make is PAINFULLY slow, and it hardly feels like you're achieving anything. Save your money and play Adventure Capitalist or Tap Titans on your phone instead.

Edit: Thank lord Gaben there's a refund option on Steam now.

Edit 2: Apparently there's offline progression now. Still waiting on the satisfying gameplay update.
