A Year of Waiting and Reflection: Cities: Skylines 2 Review

I’ve waited over a year before writing this review, hoping time would bring improvements to a game I once eagerly anticipated. I loved Cities: Skylines 1—it’s a fantastic city-building game that I still wholeheartedly recommend picking up, especially during a sale. But here’s the issue: this isn’t Cities: Skylines 1. This is Cities: Skylines 2, and sadly, I cannot recommend the game in its current state.

While the developers have made significant improvements over the past year, the release of Cities: Skylines 2 epitomises a troubling trend in gaming: the launch of half-baked projects and incomplete work. As gamers, we need to stop accepting this as the norm. I commend and appreciate the CEO’s open acknowledgement of the game’s issues, and I genuinely believe the developers will make things right in time. However, the problem is, I didn’t buy the game “in time.” I bought it over a year ago, and I expected a finished/playable product then—not a promise for the future.

Playtime vs. Frustration
As of now, I’ve logged 112 hours in Cities: Skylines 2. On paper, that might seem like a reasonable return on investment, but those hours have been filled with frustration, disappointment, and more contemplation than enjoyment. The game’s current state often feels like a constant uphill battle against bugs, performance issues, and design oversights that make it hard to fully immerse yourself in the city-building experience.

The Long Road Ahead
I remain hopeful that the developers will eventually complete this project and that Cities: Skylines 2 will one day live up to the incredible potential and hype that surrounded its launch. But even a year on, it feels like the finish line is nowhere in sight. It’s a long road ahead, and as of now, I can’t see a clear path to when I could confidently recommend this game.

Final Verdict
If you’re on the fence, my advice is simple: avoid Cities: Skylines 2 for now. Instead, pick up Cities: Skylines 1. It’s a polished, enjoyable experience that won’t leave you with the same lingering disappointment. Hopefully, someday, Cities: Skylines 2 will become the game we all wanted it to be. Until then, save yourself the frustration.

We are Bastion and Blade. No Mercy! No Respite! No Fear!

Space Marine 2 delivers an exhilarating, fast-paced power armor fantasy experience that plunges you straight into the brutal and unrelenting universe of Warhammer 40K. With average matches lasting around 20–30 minutes, it’s a manageable commitment that fits perfectly into any gaming session. The game features a solid progression system and an abundance of cosmetic customisation options, ensuring your Space Marine or Chaos Champion stands out on the battlefield.

The developers deserve credit for consistently supporting the game with free updates and new maps. While there are purchasable cosmetics, the amount of earnable in-game customisation is more than generous, striking a fair balance.

Combat and Classes
The combat is fast, fluid, and fun—simple to pick up but with enough depth to reward skillful play. Here’s a tip: please learn to counter! Not just for the sake of us loyal Ultramarines, but for your own survival. Trust me, randoms, mastering counters will elevate your game and make you a force to be reckoned with.

The game features multiple classes, each offering unique play styles to suit your preferences. For my fellow Bulwarks out there, let’s say it together: “My oath is my shield!” Whether you prefer to be a tanky wall of justice, a fleet-footed damage dealer, or something in between, there’s a class for everyone to enjoy.

Enemies
Currently, you’ll face two distinct enemies:

Tyranids: An alien swarm of bugs that are endlessly satisfying to turn into a gory splatter-fest with your chainsword or bolter.

Chaos Marines: Corrupted variants of Space Marines that focus more on ranged combat and bring unique challenges to the battlefield.

Both factions feel distinct and offer enough variety to keep each match engaging and unpredictable.

Customisation
On the topic of cosmetics, I have one gripe: I wish DLC armor was recolorable. Yes, I’ve heard the arguments about “the lore,” but let’s be real—if I want to stomp through the battlefield as a pink Power Ranger with feathers, or fully embrace my inner goth with all-black armor, let me! Thankfully, the in-game earnable items are completely recolorable, allowing you to bring your creative (or chaotic) vision to life.

Final Thoughts
If you’re craving a visceral power armour fantasy set in the grimdark Warhammer 40K universe, Space Marine 2 delivers in spades. Whether you’re cutting down Tyranids in a bloody frenzy or facing off against Chaos Marines with tactical precision, this game is an absolute blast. Suit up, embrace the fight, and remember: No mercy, no respite, no fear!

A Relaxing and Engaging Game
"Railroader" is what I would affectionately call a "boring game"—but I mean that in the best way possible. Much like Euro Truck Simulator 2 (ETS2), it’s the kind of game that’s perfect for unwinding and losing yourself in a satisfying loop of simple, yet rewarding gameplay. It offers a unique balance for any gaming library, especially if you’re looking for something low-pressure to offset more intense titles.

The gameplay revolves around tasks like shunting cars, which might sound mundane on paper, but trust me—it’s incredibly addictive. I’ve completely lost track of hours of real-world time, telling myself, “Just one more car...” The game has a calming rhythm that keeps you coming back for more. Beyond shunting, "Railroader" introduces deeper mechanics that keep things interesting. As you expand your rolling stock, you’ll build relationships with local companies, gaining their trust to secure better contracts and more lucrative work. Of course, that trust is occasionally tested—usually when I manage to turn a routine job into a spectacular derailment. Let’s just say my accidents tend to be less about the quirks of the game and more about the quirks of my own expert driving.

The game also includes advanced features that rail enthusiasts will love, such as managing hotbox prevention and oiling to keep your trains running smoothly. There’s a satisfying layer of strategy in ensuring your equipment is well-maintained, balancing coal levels at your coal towers, and planning your resources carefully to keep operations efficient. These details add depth and complexity to the relaxing rhythm, even if my personal rhythm occasionally involves picking up the pieces of my latest “oops” moment on the tracks.

Customer Support That Sets a High Bar
On a related note, I recently encountered a strange quirk, possibly a bug, and decided to report it to the development team via their Discord server. To my surprise, I received a response within 8 minutes! That’s the kind of attentive and dedicated service you’d be hard-pressed to find from larger studios like EA or Ubisoft. This level of responsiveness and community engagement has only reinforced my love for the game and the team behind it.

If you’re on the fence about trying "Railroader," I can wholeheartedly recommend it. Not only is the gameplay a relaxing escape, but the developers’ commitment to their community makes the experience even more enjoyable.

The game has an interesting concept, but ultimately fails on execution at the time of playing they say its work in progress, work still needed.

Just a warning but the developer has raised the price twice (SteamDB) just before sales to then apply a discount while they appear to be following correct practice of doing it a month prior it still a anti consumer practice.

Masterpiece

All those involved in the creation of this game should be proud of the final product. My recommendation to anybody who now has the pleasure to experience this for the first time is to do like I did: take your time, enjoy the little moments, and don't feel rushed to do all the campaign missions. Do them as and when it feels right, and most importantly, enjoy the emotional roller coaster that is this title.

I went into Hogwarts with the thought that it was a good filler game while I waited for Starfield and Cities Skylines later in the year as it turned out this game was better than both those games Ive almost platinumed the game Im two achievements and while Im doubtful I will ever Plat the game as at the moment there is no reason to come back if your wondering if you will enjoy this game i have little doubt the magic is fun and visually refreshing and i do not regret learning the dark arts
