If you like Sniper Elite games you will like this. It does what you expect if you are familiar with the titles. The gameplay fundamentals are the same, with some improved graphics, some new mechanics, and a new invasion mode (that you can turn off). Don't expect anything groundbreaking just a solid game done well and has great performance minus a few bugs they will patch. The co-op campaign is probably the best working one in the series, and the new invasion mode works pretty well, but I can see it being plagued by people abusing this system for XP or hiding in areas you can only get to with a ladder/etc.

A lot of people are coming here expecting assassins creed traversal, AAA studio graphics, along with other unreasonable expectations. This studio is not massive with the funding of a AAA title like battlefield, but that being said it doesn't look bad at all, even one of the worst aspects graphically being some animations or player models aren't bad at all. People have way higher standards for this game than others for some very strange reason... I think the game looks fine it has never bothered me, if anything I'm enjoying the performance.

Some of the worst aspects of this game in my opinion revolves around the traversal and map systems. It is like an open map of connecting linear ones and it gives the illusion of an open world type map but the climbing, vaulting, and pathways are heavily restricted which is super annoying to me. I can also tell that they kept out some content because they want to add season pass weapons/dlc. Also I would be surprised if the multiplayer lasts at all if you are coming here for that, although most people don't. I think because this game is sort of a niche, diehard fans are getting butthurt at any changes whatsoever but at the same time they are complaining there aren't enough.

My advice is if you like Sniper Elite games buy it, if you aren't sure try it for under 2 hours and refund it if you don't, it doesn't take long to get right into the action.

Fun game, nothing game changing, just a solid experience. Sound design is pretty rough, and the game is pretty repetitive but I enjoyed it. Most people probably won't finish it because it is pretty long.

Nothing wrong with the concept as it is pretty similar to a game like siege, but the gameplay just feels very sluggish and clunky, the animations make it very janky especially when shooting people makes their bodies jerk around. ADS is very slow and whether that is on purpose or not, it feels like it isn't, same with movement in general it feels delayed. The performance is terrible despite it looking the way it does, but I would assume that improves as the game is early access. As of the time of this review the game is pretty bad, but has potential to be decent game.

Probably a little dumbed down in some areas compared to Crusader Kings 2 but in return looks much nicer in graphics, ui, and is much more immersive for me. Those older games were so inaccessable compared to games like HOI 4 and CK 3. I was able to play and generally understand the game on my very first playthrough, but the good news is it will take tons of hours to truly understand how every mechanic works. A lot of hardcore paradox players will disagree with me but for normal people who just want fun and historical immersion, this game is extremely time consuming like all paradox games, tedious, and very fun.

I think overall this game is an okay or even good game but it is just not for me. If you want something historical and immersive, this is not your total war game.

I'm totally fine with a romanticized game (Shogun 2 did it perfectly, yes that is romanticized), but this game is borderline fantasy even in the records mode. I'll admit I was never really into Chinese culture/history but I was willing to get into it and as I played I watched a lot of historical videos/documentaries but I couldn't help but feel like I was playing some dynasty warriors type game even in records mode. I think the art style and portraits did have a lot to do with it but the overall aesthetic is fantasy like.

The diplomacy is a huge improvement, but imo the ui and the map makes it very tedious to manage settlements and very difficult to keep track of where ally and enemy armies are and it can get super annoying. The way generals work where they have retinues of 6 units and they can only recruit specific units is very annoying and makes micro managing super tedious. This makes me just stack armies of anything and spam auto resolve which is just not fun. In all honesty I was super willing to love this game, I could even ignore the fantasy aesthetics, but map clutter was so extremely annoying to manage especially when you expand your territory. I will say that the performance is much better than previous titles but I might just attribute at least some of this to the smaller scale battles and sometimes lesser quality graphics, especially with battle animations and the removal of 1v1 combat animations.

Overall, I think this is generally an okay game, and I might come back to it every now and then, especially if there are good mods, but this is always going to be a game I want to love but can't.

My initial review was very negative, and now my opinion has changed a bit. Despite this, I still cannot recommend the game in it's current state. If this current version is how the game initially launched onto early access then I might recommend the game. Knowing this is the full release version out of early access, I genuinely can't recommend it. It honestly feels like very early alpha version of a Day of Infamy/Day of Defeat clone. Here are a few reasons why this mostly isn't worth a buy currently:

Pros
  • Classic WW2/COD2/DOD/DOI style shooter (In Progress)
  • Several weapons, maps, and factions
  • Item unlock/progression system
  • Custom map creator/steam workshop
  • Passionate development team
Cons
  • Lack of players (Very low count)
  • Few populated servers may not be in your location
  • No weight to weapons
  • Awkward movement speed
  • Screen tearing (Possibly just my issue?)
  • Lack of fluidity/smooth gameplay
  • Poor character animations
  • Small development team
  • Questionable hitboxes/tickrate
Overall, I backed this game from day one and am a fan of this style. If you like where the game is heading and want to support it regardless of it's current state go ahead, but the playerbase is waning. I will definitely keep up to date with this game in the hopes that it improves so that I can change my review.

Suggestions for developers
My biggest issue instantly with the game was how clunky it felt. I really believe the reason games like dod and counter strike were so successful was because the base mechanics felt great in the game and addictive. Whenever I look/move around and sprint It feels unsmooth and very off. I think the movement speed/animations need to be smoothed out or adjusted to be slower as it feels very hectic/twitchy and rough (not in a good way). While I appreciate you added all of these weapons, maps, and other content, I think you guys need to absolutely smooth out the base mechanics and have those come second. Another issue that I only face in this game is, on my i7/GTX 1080/144hz build, I get stutters and screen tearing from just looking around. I also recommend quality of life changes such as being able to see the crosshair as you adjust it and viewmodel fov sliders. Also what is up with the x and y sensitivity sliders?

I'm not reviewing this based on the publishers actions, I'm purely reviewing the game.

Review

This is a must have if you are already into the Metro games and it is a fantastic game in general. The graphics and gameplay very much improved whilst keeping the very immersive Metro feel. The game has several open maps you travel to and get a chance to explore, all introducing a new variety of gear, weapons, attachments, and enemies. The story is predictable but still manages to be interesting with likable characters and it is also worth pointing out that there is a karma system that effects the end of the game as well as each chapter. The game runs and is optimized generally well aside from the poor porting of the game. In my opinion this is a must buy for 2019 and has me very excited for future DLC.

You will likely get 14+ hours on this game depending on if you do all the optional quests and your difficulty. I also recommend playing this game on hardcore, turning off the crosshair, and using this guide[gtm.steamproxy.vip] if you can't stand things such as motion blur which cannot be turned off.

Pros

+ Graphics
+ Performance
+ Gameplay
+ Story
+ Immersion
+ Crafting
+ Exploration
+ Karma System
+ Day/Night Cycle

Cons

- Bad Port (Missing several basic settings such as FOV, Motion Blur, etc.)
- Could use minor quality of life improvements (proper save slots, fix minor bugs, leaning, etc.)
- Minor Bugs
- Minor frame dips
- Some poor scripted events
- Basic stealth
