Nearly 1 year after release, where is it now?

TL;DR - If you own the game and are thinking about trying it now, definitely give it a go. Else, pick up in a sale for now. It's a lot better, not buggy, good servers, more realistic, great gun-play and satisfying heists. It's not perfect, currently only 14 heists total (3 of which paid DLC), but it really is getting there!

I got the game on release but never played due to the shocking state it was in. I've waited until now to give it a try, and I'm very pleased I gave it a chance, it is not a lost cause. The game has clearly had some effort put into it, so if you do already have it in your library, you miss out on nothing by just giving it a try again to see for yourself. If you're interested in what fixes and updates have been implemented, and what's to come, check out the YouTube channel Red Archer Live, he gives brilliant breakdowns and is very honest about the state of the game.

If you enjoyed Payday 2 or just thinking about buying Payday 3, I would really recommend giving this a try if it comes on sale. It's already cheaper than most new games at full price, so a sale will get you enough bang for your buck to enjoy this game. Content-wise it is currently lacking if you compare this to Payday 2. Only 14 heists in the game at the time of writing, but this is increasing with time and the replay value is good.

Updates are still coming to the game, and it does need them. We definitely need more heists, which they are still adding free ones roughly every 3 months so far, and more tweaks to weapons, balance, and solo heisting (especially stealth). Currently solo mode is still in beta, so be aware that this is not the final vision they have for solo players. But it is playable and enjoyable.

I think this game could really do with a line drawn in the sand and looking at the game for what it is now and not what it was. No game should release in the state this did, but like No Mans Sky and Cyberpunk, this game has turned itself around. I'm not excusing the developer, I'm just a gamer reviewing a game for its game-play. Don't get me wrong, it does still need more time to cook, but given how great Payday 2 is, I want this game to succeed.

20 years ago, the first Ratchet and Clank was one of my favourite games. Today, the first still is, but this is a close second.

Amazing deep and emotional story, great music, fantastic gameplay. In a sale, you wont regret buying! It's a game you'll remember.
