Feels like I’m playing one of those fake pre-rendered Xbox 360 trailers

brings me back to 2012-2015, snipars, macintosh plus, yung lean, fiji water and arizona tea. It was such a defining era for me. Great game. The walking is a little slow, but that's its only draw back.

The voice acting was unprecedentedly good. the edginess was over the top and didn't hold any punches. I loved the vibe!

It's a great Lovecraftian steampunk game with nice environmental design, attention to detail, great places to veer off and explore. Definitely gives Xbox 360-era energy with that distinct bloomy shadowy look with textures that have overtones of glossy clay.

Definitely peak. Something about this art direction reels you into its world, something newer games just don't do for me really.

The big daddy name I thought was a little lame and slapped together unless there is this an elaborate metaphor i don't know about.

The story was alright. heady, imaginative, and unique. I bet if I played this game as a kid, it would have had way more of impact on me.

the combat can be a little iffy. I was playing on the hardest difficulty and the big daddy's were a pain, but then I learned later on that bolts are op. Especially since you can collect the bolts.

the hacking can be a little obtuse after doing them so frequently. I often use automated hack units, not because the hacks are too hard or anything, mostly just to save time.

the atmosphere, sound design, music, and the gameplay. its all great and the price fits this game well.

its like a mix between silent hill, saw, industrial dystopian sci fi, and benadryl.

Cons

- No memorable bosses
- Few Variation in enemy types
- Rinse and repeating the same objectives and killing the same enemy types over and over again makes for a monotonous play
- The story is good but not spectacular in my opinion

Pros

- The setting is probably the greatest thing it has going for it. Beautiful landscape of Bright Falls, Washington. Gorgeous mountains, Western Hemlock, White Pines.
- The protagonist isn't the worst. carries the stereotypical writer tropes
- The collectibles were a nice addition. Made exploring a bit more fun
- Voice acting was on point and kept you engaged


I would say the closest comparison I could give it is Bloobers, Medium. Medium was a tad bit more mediocre than this, but they have close similarities. Heavy emphasis on storytelling and not enough on gameplay.

I think if I had this on Xbox 360 when it shipped I would regard it with much more value.
