He smiles big and shoves the hatred away.
The last performance must happen this day.
He jokes, he dances, and sings a song.
The court applauds but something is wrong.
The king darts at him an angry stare.
To which the Jester is well aware.
The king demands that he make him laugh.
The Jester leans warily against his staff.
For hours and hours he did entertain.
Even as the Jester's energy did wane.
If he fails he'll be without a head.
And there will be another in his stead.
But today will be different for these men.
There will never be a headless Jester again.
Exhausted the Jester turns around.
He slams his staff on the ground.
From the top a dagger dost appear.
The king's anger now turns to fear.
The Jester swings the staff held out wide.
The king's cruelty he will no longer abide.
As he turns, the king still stands in place.
Now seeing the evil grin on the Jester's face.
From the staff the dagger does fly.
Striking the hated king in his eye.
The Jester, the king's men do not subdue.
For he was only the final piece in this coup.
This is where the Jester's story ends for now.
As the crowd cheers he takes his final bow.
