FINALLY

It was a starry night in 2017 when I stumbled upon an Estonian news article about an upcoming Estonian game. I was intrigued as game developers from my homeland are rare, but I stayed sceptical as other games from Estonia have been pretty ♥♥♥♥♥♥. Now that I have got my hands on this game, I can happily say I was proven wrong. This game is a true masterpiece!

I do not use the word masterpiece lightly, but this game deserves it. The detail and the story you can tell with it - GOD IT IS GOOD. It takes you on a journey from the very first load until you close it and reflect on your choices.

The character customization is incredible and really affects your game. If you have a dumb drug addict, then your monologues are considerably shorter. Your existence is fully customizable. So far I have become a communist who preaches God's word to all, who bother me. The game also expands on very different ideas about race and religion so it may offend some, but everything is fully fictional, so it should not introduce any problems. "Disco Elysium" offers you thought material for months, if you wish it to.

The gameplay is smooth and the visuals are amazing. The lead art designer Aleksander Rostov has done a wonderful job and the map design is also fantastic. I was many hours into the game when I realized that I had not explored even half of the map. Everything is so detailed in this game. Every box has its meaning and every door leads to new opportunities.

Guess I have to mention replayability once more. If you thought that other story based games (Telltale Games for example) were replayable, you will be suprised by the depth of "Disco Elysium". EVERY CHOICE MATTERS. Every person who you meet has different dialogue options and it is a constant struggle between picking the absurd one and not disappointing your partner Kim. The developers themselves have said that it takes at least 3 drastically different runs to 100% complete the game. Just for measures, the game is over 1 000 000 words long. A million words. It is longer than the bible.

If it seems like I am overselling this game, I am sorry, but it really deserves this kind of attention. I am proud and delighted that a game from Estonia is my GOTY. Everyone who like to take their time and explore a completely different universe, this is a masterpiece, which you can devour endlessly.
