Game is really fun BUT it does expect you to eventually buy the legendary edition so you can access high roller and play multiple classes.

Totally give it a shot for free, there is plenty to do and it is fun, but if you want to use your loot you will be expected to eventually purchase the game (around $30)

Edit: They changed the main issue people had with the game, now you can bring your items into the normal gamemode as long as they aren't legendary. Pretty complete experience even for f2p, and there are still some cool benefits to upgrading your account if you plan to.

I would really like if they added an option to buy the legendary edition upgrade from the steam page directly, as it would help players understand what the f2p version is and is not, as well as enable regional pricing which would keep smaller regions active long term.

Embarrassing performance makes this game unplayable right now.
3900x, 16gb ram, RTX 3070 cannot run this game at a playable state on low. Not that it matters, there is no fps difference between low and epic settings on my system. The game just refuses to go above 45 fps and every new thing makes it stutter. I am playing at 1080p, by the way, this game can't do 1080p 60 fps right now.

What is worse, it can't do 30fps either, it is stuttery and will sometimes drop below 30.
This on a PC that ran Re4 remake with ray tracing at 80fps + last month.

Stopped playing immediately in case it isn't fixed soon and I decide to refund it in two weeks.
Terribly dissapointing, first pre-purchase I have ever regretted and I have pre purchased a great deal of games.

I am terribly dissapointed in respawn for releasing a game in this state, fallen order ran flawlessly on release.
Thought to be fair I suspect it was EA's call to release like this.

Edit: As of May 1, with the hotifx patch, the game still remains at an unacceptable level on my system. Stutter during combat getting me killed, and framerate depends entirely on areas. Some minor areas ran decently, some not at all.

Edit 2: As of may 9th, I am stuck with this game because Steam refused my refund request due to playtime while trying to get the game to work.
I guess that is goodbye to my money, it feels awful, but I guess I'll just try to hope they fix the game soon enough.

Good game, fun gameplay, gets a bit repetitive at the middle but once you figure out how to stunlock some enemies and which enemies you can quickly execute it really picks up.

Bosses were surprisingly good. Really enjoyed how quick some of those fights are.

Great game. Can barely play it occacionally. Sometimes it just won't connect, or worse, it will connect after 10 minutes and then disconnect you in your first match.

This is happening on a wired connection and more than 300mb/s internet speed.

So it sort of randombly becomes unplayable for hours on end for no reason. Really frustrating, but the gameplay itself is really good and when you actually get to play online the netcode is stellar, never have I ever before been able to play 100+ ping without it being awful, and this game makes 150 ping matches feel like 60 ping does in street fighter.

Will change to a recommend as soon as connection issues are handled and startup time is improved, until then beware. This is a fun game held back by awful issues and a lack of polish.

Edit to add that it is working a bit better as of 16/08/21
Might just be a good day, but I'm changign to a recommend for now.
(day after: lmao tried for an hour, couldn't even get to the main menu. I understand this is not everyone's experience, and most people seem to at least be able to play if they wait a while, but still. Beware, this is still an issue.)

Edit: Been able to play a bit more consistently (still difficult at times) since the balance patch, and at least during afternoons it seems to be functional. The patch notes mentioned the connection issues and devs say they are working on it. It also improved balance by buffing instead of nerfing which I respect, can recommend again, hope it keeps going in this direction!

Day 1 servers are on fire. That is a fact.
However, when the game does work it is a blast.
Team modes will infuriate you though, just remember that for everyone you call a mean name, there is someone that thinks the same of you.
This is a very videogamey game. The point of the game is that it is fun, that is it. It will make you rage, it will make you yell and it will make you scream in glorious victory.

Graphics are fine, colorful and lighthearted, with lots of things to unlock and customization options. Gameplay is silly and enjoyable when not infuriating.

Give it a try

Kind of just starting, but I have a lot of experience with directional combat sustems and mechanics similar to the ones here. Im happy to say that all you need to jump into world pvp is some practice and the gear and levels you get from the tutorial. levelling up is really quick with quests, and it should get you to about level 40 or 50 before you need to get grinding, but even if you just level up to 30 and go join fights you will not be too far behind in terms of damage or defense. levelling up will get you some nice perks and stats increase, so dont dismiss it entirely either, but once gained you cannot lose it. unlike gear!

The way gear works is a highlight as well. When you die in open world pvp, you can be looted, meaning that getting heavily attached to some expensive or high quality item will mean a lot of regret when you die to a guy kiting you with horse archery, or are humilliated by a much better player with terrible but functional gear.
The difference between cheap and expensive gear is noticeable but it is minimal, you can just buy a full set of everything you want for cheap and jump right into pvp. skill, patience and cunning matter more than having 20 more damage on a longsword.

Overall that has been my first impression of the balance, it is clear that the devs have made deliberate design choices to make death be consequencial and undesirable without setting you back to square one. meaning you will actually value your character's life since dying could mean losing an item. but you also know you can do fine without it.

edit: As of 2020 the server that allowed south american players to have less than 100 ping has been merged into an us server in which 200+ ping is expected, I can no longer recommend this game to anyone outside of north america or west europe, as the developers have chosen to alienate an entire region that they already sold the game to.

Unless you are close to one of the official server spots, I can't recommend you buy this game for its multiplayer.

If you are here because you want to play the singleplayer sandbox, then welcome! This game is obviously made with care and love, and it is only expected to get better during EA.
