Helldivers 2 is one of the best games I've played in the past few years. Full stop, hands down. Despite bugs, server issues and the occasional open mic screaming fit, it has one of the best gameplay loops I've experienced and it has one of the strongest communities I've had the opportunity to be a part of, and they've shown that in the past few days. Arrowhead has spent the better part of a decade working on this game, and the love and care is fully evident, especially in the strong response from the community to some questionable decisions on the part of Sony, the publisher.

I cannot recommend the game enough.

I've owned Icarus since launch, and while it started out rough, the game has come a long way. While I miss some of the challenge of having missions tick in real time, the current system is much friendlier to all players. The consistent updates, both large and small, have been refreshing, and definitely show how much the devs care about the ongoing health of the game.

I happily recommend it to anyone that enjoys survival crafting/base building games.

While I miss the more methodical gameplay of the earliest Armored Cores, I don't hate the more speed based, dodge everything boostfest that AC6 represents. I don't agree with the addition of mechaestus, but it's a choice to use them during gameplay, so I can't fault them for offering the option. The checkpointing system does make me sad, as there seems to be little punishment for failing a mission anymore, which was always something I enjoyed in old AC games, but changing tastes, etc.

This scratches the itch of big robots fighting each other, and I can strongly recommend the game to anyone who enjoys big robots, understands that the old plodding games of the PSX and PS2 era are (sadly) gone, and whom enjoys punishing difficulty spikes (I'm looking at you, Balteus).

Early Access Review
I have a healthy amount of time in RL1, and am already enjoying RL2. There is some wonkiness with some of the combinations (Air wind down for barb is brutal, but can be cancelled out of with downstrike), but I can tell that it's another roguelite I'll put hours into. Early Access caveat, but highly enjoyable if you like the first game.

Edited post Far Shores:

The game is tightening up quite nicely. The Valk and Chef are both fun additions, and the rebalance of much of the classes and trees is welcome. Mastery is interesting, but currently just a stat increase. I'm curious to see where it goes from here and how they iterate on it in further updates. Unity is interesting. Can't wait to see what the roadmapped future holds.

I, and my carpal tunnel, miss zorencoptering.

Otherwise, 9/10.

Updated: Still miss my copter. Love my Lichfu, though.

Solid gameplay, though seeming to lack depth. From my (low level) game experience, it tends to be a steamroll, and stay a steamroll. The overall feel of the game seems to be smooth, though it felt clunky every now and then, especially with hit detection (though that may more say something about my latency and server location than the actual hitboxes).

I'm sure there will be a more beginner friendly tutorial at some point, which may help alleviate the primary issue I had in my first match, which was I was apparently a dropin, and received none of the "Helpful Tip" toasts, meaning I was blind to a lot of the primary functions of the game (class special, boost dodging, etc).

I think there's a ton of potential here, and it'll balance out as time goes on. Worth keeping an eye on.
