When I finished Outer Wilds, I didn't see the point of an expansion to what is a perfectly crafted puzzle. However my hunger for more OW content eventually pulled me in and I kicked off this journey initially unsure of what I was getting into, knowing only that the expansion moved into territory unfamiliar to the Outer Wilds formula.

Like Outer Wilds, I urge everyone jumping in to go in blind. No reviews, story recaps or guides. A gaming experience like this is hard to come by. Please disregard the horror warning that appears at the beginning of the game. While the atmosphere at times is downright creepy and unnerving, the horror elements are no more frightening than the Anglerfish of Dark Bramble.

Below are my thoughts, written immediately after finishing the DLC.

==MY THOUGHTS (SPOILERS) ==
I've seen some great comments across the internet breaking down this DLC's purpose and place in Outer Wilds. Adventure and braving the unknown are the core themes of the series, but what the main game failed to show was the aspects we don't like to talk about. Failure, fear of the unknown and the desire to look back. Discerning the fate of the Stranger and its inhabitants is to me, one of the saddest stories in modern fiction. A species who heard the Call of the Eye, sacrificed their home and everything they cherished to reach it only to realize the dream had been chasing would mark the end of their existence. A race who, driven by fear of the unknown and the agony of their sacrifice, fell into disarray. Its members spending their days viewing faded reels of an extinct home longing for better days. In hope of clawing back what they lost, they moved their society into digital space, preferring the coddled vices of a simulacrum to reality. What saddens me the most about their tale is that even within the unlimited confines of a simulation, they still chose to sit and watch old reels. It's almost as if being in the memory was not enough to satisfy their longing for home. The realization that this place isn't a mechanism to set them free, but a prison to distract them from the agony of their sacrifice. That thought alone brought me to tears.

AN AFTERTHOUGHT (READ ONLY IF YOU'VE COMPLETED THE DLC)
As you play through the 22 minute loop, you slowly come to terms with the fact that you are watching the slow and excruciating extinction of an entire species. This realization came to me
when I was trying to sneak into the Riverland mansion for the first time, within which the eerie tune of “elegy of the rings” was emanating. As I peered inside, I realized these strangers had come together. Were they aware of what was happening to their vessel? I pondered. As the music slowly died down and they noticed me, the dam broke. I watched these beings stare silently at me, either in wonder or confusion at the interloper that barged its way into their intimate musical procession. But before they could come to terms with what to do with me, there was a sudden brief moment of agony, before each individual shattered into lines of code. Then silence. I was left alone in that empty manor with nothing but their dreams and their failures.

I have dreamed to play Halo 3 on PC the day it was announced. I was never afforded the chance to own a 360 so all I could do was play at my neighbour's house whenever he was home. When MCC for PC was announced, I shed many tears of joy. This is referring to the campaign, as I was never able to play Halo 3 MP in its heyday (due to lack of 360.)

This was the moment the Halo series reached its zenith. Absolute perfection in every category.

-The game design, from enemies, factions, vehicles all the way to the Covenant capital ships and UNSC frigates reaches its apex in this game, and with 343i's takeover of the series it goes downhill from here. Brutes have replaced elites as the leader caste of the Covenant forces, but look absolutely badass in their new armor.

-Many of the level designs embrace the classic Halo formula with large areas and ongoing battles without your intervention. The classic Halo formula of diversity in the map design featuring human built areas, Forerunner structures, Flood-infested slime nests and burning ruins.

-Halo: CE created the formula, Halo 2 experimented with it and Halo 3 has perfected it. The addition of pickup abilities influences the gameplay but not enough to diminish the Halo experience. Gunplay is smooth, clean and fun.

-Best soundtrack in the franchise thanks to Martin O'Donnell's efforts. One Final Effort is an absolute masterpiece.

-Best lore interpretation of the Flood. Their first encounter is absolutely terrifying and Bungie went above and beyond making them the parasitic menace they are. The infection forms now infect corpses and NPCs in real time!!! Young me in 2007 absolutely lost it when I saw that for the first time on my friend's crappy CRT television.

-A glorious end to the Chief's story. Humans and Elites fighting side by side, humanity on the brink of extinction and the final end of the Prophet of Truth and the Covenant. Very powerful stuff.

-One critique is the change in voice actors for Miranda Keyes and Truth, but I know there's some reasons behind the scenes for that.

Having grown up playing Halo CE: PC edition religiously, Halo: Anniversary was in all honesty an underwhelming remaster. There is no one big thing, but numerous small things that made me dislike this.

-Constant sound/audio bugs. Certain music and sounds cut out (The Ghost FX stop after a few seconds.)

-Unimpressive graphics that honestly detract from the charm of the original game with none of the "wow" factor that came with Halo 2: Anniversary. I found myself playing more on original graphics on subsequent playthroughs.

-It may sound trivial but matters to me: In Anniversary graphics, Keyes is wearing his Captain's uniform on 343 Guilty Spark, where in the original version he was sporting more functional combat clothing. Dude must have been sweating his balls off wearing that suit in such a humid swamp environment.

Now a critique of Halo: CE itself based on a Legendary playthrough:

-Much slower gameplay in comparison to Halo: Reach (if you play in in-game chronological order.) I'm honestly grateful this gameplay style was left behind, though I will say the large scale of Halo CE's maps were certainly absent in Halo 2's campaign.

-I found the AI on the original PC version was very impressive the first time I played through on Legendary. Enemies were aggressive, exercised flanking tactics and knew when to apply pressure and when to retreat. For some reason I did not get that same experience here. Maybe the AI was affected by the remaster, maybe not.

-♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ checkpoint system, easily the worst in the Halo franchise.

-I'm certainly biased given I have played this campaign a thousand times, but there is certainly some laziness in the level design (I'm looking at you, Library.) Several maps also reuse previous maps and/or feature quite a bit of backtracking (This works well on Two Betrayals, which is the reverse of AOTCR because the intensity is ramped up due to the openness of the map and scale of the Covenant/Flood battles, but doesn't really work on 343 Guilty Spark, which just becomes tedious looking at those boring rooms.)

-Best Flood IMO, given how satisfying they are to fight and their aggression.

-Halo 1 shotgun and pistol gang rise up.

This had been on my radar for a long time and I decided to finally take the plunge. Like what the reviews said, I went into it without having seen a single clip of gameplay or understanding of what was awaiting me.

To keep it spoiler free, I can only say that it has been a very long game since a video game made me feel so... small, helpless and ultimately feeble. The mystery at the core of Outer Wilds is a tangled web of many layers that, as you uncover it, only deepens the mystery. Playing Outer Wilds took me back to when I was 12, reaching the space stage of Spore and simply overwhelmed at the sheer size of the galaxy, and fighting waves of Grox to uncover the mysteries waiting at the galactic center.

Dive into this adventure with an open mind and no prejudices. That's all I can really say. You won't regret it.

An arcade-like representation of the shipping industry. Run a shipping line, purchase ships and ferry cargoes across the world while managing fluctuating bunker and commodity prices.

As someone in the industry, I am very happy to see this concept transformed into a game that is easy to grasp onto and quick to pick up. That being said, it certainly waters down a lot of the concepts and only focuses on container shipping, itself representative of only 21% of global tonnage. However after learning the initial gameplay loop there is nothing else to do. The bugs and annoying AI are frustrating as is the expensive cost for "engaging tugs" to skip the oftentimes frustrating and boring port navigation minigame. Numerous times i got myself stuck with the dumb AI pushing my ship against a pier and reducing my ship's condition to 5%. The "call tug" button regularly gets stuck, soft-locking the game and forcing you to press the settings button to reset it.

Gameplay wise, it's easy. That's all I can really say. You base your ship's routes on the availability of high paying cargo at each port you visit, also keeping in mind bunker prices at each port in order to bring your operating costs down. You'll soon find it tedious and start finding ways to increase your pace into and out of ports. It's *super* realistic to see a 50,000 DWT vessel approaching a dock at 12 knots while Tokyo-Drifting into the berth. All the captain needs to do is press escape on his ECDIS keyboard and the ship stops its momentum immediately. How crazy!

My suggestions:
-Needs to include the dry bulk and product tanker sectors as these have their own pitfalls and challenges to deal with. Drybulk ships, instead of having penalties on late cargoes, should give you a penalty if your vessel fails to arrive in the load port within the prescribed window (the laycan.) Also, extra costs and work should be put into ensuring holds are cleaned and this opens up potential for a mini game of some kind. (Hold Washing Simulator?)

-A feature to slap your idiot Captain when he taunts you about "losing reputation" for engaging tugs. In this day and age, no port authority will ever permit ships of these sizes to berth without at least one tug.

-Game becomes very tedious after only a few hours with no real challenge other than trying to fulfill contracts (aka Contract of Afreightments or "COAs" in real speak) and managing your routes. Constantly berthing in each port becomes a chore.

suits run when I come undone
canʼt kill me Iʼm zeroes and ones
add justice to the peoples math
blaze way down the rebel path

I'm one of the lucky few who did not buy into the hype that ended up casting a thick black shadow over this game's legacy. But everyone had a part to play. The soyboy redditors thinking this was going to be the Morbius of video games, amazing, catered to their every whim and packed with every small feature they could think of; and CDPR for sustaining that hype through a marketing campaign that did not reflect reality.

It's been a few years now, couple of bug fixes and I decided to brush the dust off and give it a go. Yes, some bugs still linger but underneath the bright yellow cover is easily one of the best and more importantly -memorable- story experiences released in a long time. Once you warm up to the game's mechanics and gameplay style, it really takes off fast. It does have problems though. It has fallen into the same pitfalls as other "fail RPGs" like Fallout 4 (voiced protagonist, linear quest structures), but is still very much a polished and immersive experience set in the backdrop of a beautifully crafted albeit horizontal Night City. A lot of its character-building mechanics can be quite linear, its cyberware system no more complex than Deus Ex: Human Revolution's, and not offering much diversity in terms of different playstyles. Driving can be an effort too and sometimes the UI can be a bit annoying. Stealth is pretty easy as most enemies have a very basic (or no) patrol path and the computers that control the cameras are usually in your path. Despite all this, I can't recommend it enough.

The story is set across decades, strumming between the present and past as your fate is tied with that of the iconic cyberpunk rockerboy Johnny Silverhand, who's high-energy performance by Keanu Reeves came as a shock and pleasant surprise. His iconic reveal at E3 and his in-game introductory quest will forever cement him as one of gaming's most memorable characters. He is accompanied by a pantheon of other interesting people who hail from all corners of the messed up world of Cyberpunk, and through them you can catch glimpses of just how screwed all castes and classes really are. The game touches on topics most of us are not only familiar with, but sensitive to. Dysfunctional governments, totalitarian all-consuming corporations, polarized societies and rampant poverty surrounded by bright neon and digital screens depicting naked Japanese ladies. Entering this world gave me a hunger to keep playing, with the hopes that my actions could hopefully make some form of everlasting change. But as you learn though your journey with Johnny Silverhand, every little thing is interconnected, tied together by pieces of string controlled by distant fingers and hands.

But outside of the politics, there are many endearing and personal moments you can partake in, like when you can have a meaningful discussion about childhood with Takemura on the roof of a building with the backdrop of the city in front of you.
I came for the cyberpunk themes but stayed for its charm. With the latest bug fixes, the game runs very well with only the occasional (but not game-breaking) bug.

Also, they made a fictional rockband and got Refused to make straight up bangers for them too. How sick is that?

A highly atmospheric thriller survival game. This is NOT a horror game by any means, but it certainly does not lack elements that will get your skin crawling.

PROS
-Fantastic sound-design. Ambient sounds are creepy yet natural, and you'll often be straining your ears to listen out for a potential enemy. Certain ruins and locales have unique sound cues that will get your hair raised and blood pumping.

-Good gun mechanics for a game that doesn't focus on gunplay. Weapons behave, act and operate realistically and you will soon find yourself attached to your weapons as you find them, repair, maintain, load and most importantly: use in the Radius against the creepy crawlies.

-One of the best interpretations of the Soviet novel "Roadside Picnic" that was the basis of the STALKER series. The world is barren, yet teeming with strange life. The deeper you advance into the Radius, the more tougher and more frightening the enemies you encounter. Certain areas have been reduced to a strange mish-mash of floating structures and debris, others haunted by unseen entities. All the meanwhile you must take care not to step into the many anomalous zones that could render you into pieces, forcing you to heed Heisenberg's words and tread lightly.

-Both a pro and a con for some, but the survival elements are very simplistic. You have 3 elements to take care of: Health, Energy and Sleep. Health is recovered by sleeping and by using meds and the Steps artifact. Energy is recovered by eating and sleep is recovered by... Yeah, I think you know. It's a very basic and straightforward system that I can imagine some hardcore players might find too easy. It means you can jump into the game very easily, but you may not get that true Tarkov hardcore experience you might be looking for.

CONS
-Some bugs that do impact the overall experience such as arms getting stuck in furniture, reaching for your shoulder weapon can be a real challenge as you will pick up your backpack instead. Overall though it runs very smoothly.

-Needs a base upgrading mechanic or an overhaul of the base at the very least. The default base is large, empty, depressing and does not convey the feeling of a cozy secured place as you return battered and bruised after a 5 day expedition from the Radius. It should be something similar to the Tarkov hideout where you can transform it from a cold dark empty ruin into a lit up, well defended fortress, perhaps allow the player to build a shooting range where they can test out their weapons and even set up NPC stalkers to venture out for you in search of loot.
