I could sit and write a detailed review of the positives and negatives of DRG. But even though the game has changed a lot since my first boot, and there is definitely still room for improvement, all I really need to say is rock and stone!

I gotta say, you can 100% tell this game is meant to be a spiritual successor to L4D, and that's mostly a good thing, in fact, its almost entirely a good thing and most of the jank intentional gameplay mechanics comes from the new mechanics rather than anything carried over.

Theres a good, long campaign with a good story (some people disagree but I enjoyed it, it's easy to lose track of and just get lost in the zombie ridden slaying), good characters with their own unique buffs and personalities (for better or worse), and a solid deck building system; which is nice to see, lends the game a semi-roguelike feel with less chance of being shafted by RNG.

Obviously no matter what anyone says, not every game is for every player. I really like the 4 player co-op games but since other people can be less than... co-operative most of the time (surprise surprise) its not for everyone; If you have access to gamepass or some other way of trying before you buy I'd recommend doing that and making your own mind up. I was so excited for a new L4D style game I had this pre-ordered already, but as much as I enjoy it, I would also say to wait for a sale.

TLDR: Good game, probably a little overpriced, good mechanics, good gameplay, and, you guessed it, a good old fashioned toxic community

Gameplay is engaging and encourages gradual progression and improvements, Varying enemy types add variety with different Elites and Specials from each species and a balanced mix across levels. Weapon properties and traits add various ways to play all the characters, even more than the already massive variety of weapons. Talents feels like a healthy progression every 5 levels and none of them need to be accessed to make characters playable, they're just nice extras. Definitely recommend to anyone who enjoyed left4dead
