Crazy fun. I've always been a SnS and CB main, and I love how they've evolved in Wilds. I've never given Horn much of a try before, but seeing the gameplay in the beta was enough for me to give it a decent go in Worlds while waiting for Wilds to come out. Many hunts later, and I'm absolutely in love with the Wilds Horn.

105 hours in the demo and 166 hours in the full game, and yeah this game's really damn fun. So many different builds and combinations. You might feel hella strong for like 8 matches in a row then come across someone with a crazy build that makes no sense and they stomp you, and you're like "damn ok I wanna try for that next game" LOL. Losses aren't overly punishing, but you still get rewarded for winning, which I personally like

The developers just announced a strong desire for robust mod support. That alone pushed me to finally put in a review!

Other people have already made great comments and drawn good comparisons to speak to the gameplay, mechanics, audio, and aesthetics. To sum my experience up so far, I'd say that this game scratches the Slay the Spire itch while introducing many fresh and legitimately interesting mechanics. With this complexity does come a steeper learning curve that can easily become information overload during an extended play session. If that the game still sounds fun to you and you'd like to give it a go, my two recommendations are: 1. Get to learn the game with one character first rather than hopping between them run-after-run in the beginning (helps to get familiar with one thing at a time), and 2. Take a break! I definitely found the game a lot easier to wrap my head around during session 2 after it had a day for the concepts to settle in my brain.

The way that your Pals automate a lot of your base management/resource gathering makes this game so much more enjoyable for me than other similar survivalcraft games (though I understand why other people like them!). Even just this one feature (on top of your pals being adorable while helping you out) sets this game apart from many others before it imo.

Taking a single line from my review as the TL;DR:
If you like the gameplay of the base game, chances are you'll like the expansion. New monsters, new areas, new weapon mechanics, new armor skills, and new decorations but same overall formula, and that's exactly what I want and expect out of a MonHun expansion.

I'm rather surprised to see the significantly mixed reviews, but perhaps it goes to show just how important expectations are. MHR Sunbreak is simply more MHR content. That's how MonHun expansions go. If you like the gameplay of the base game, chances are you'll like the expansion. New monsters, new areas, new weapon mechanics, new armor skills, and new decorations but same overall formula, and that's historically exactly what the majority of MonHun fans have always wanted. Thinking about it from a more modern and western gamer perspective, however, I can see why some people would be disappointed, given that this is a little different (and a little grindier) than most of the (good) DLCs for western games we see.

Someone said "these updates are really just stuff that was supposed to be there in the first place," to paint it in an unfavorable light, but that just isn't true. The base game has a limited budget and a limited development timeframe. They pack as much as they can into it and then figure out how to expand on it with the expansion.

BOTH the base game and the expansion get tons of free updates (called Title Updates). Sure, sometimes it feels like some of these title updates have stuff that should've been in the initial launch, but that's the minority rather than the majority.

This is a really cool combination of a deck-builder roguelite with real-time action. It gets your blood pumping! You will lose. You will die. A lot. Sometimes it can feel unfair when you encounter a boss for the first time and get overwhelmed, but that's just part of the game. The fast-paced nature of the game makes it super easy to just hop into the next run, and you have more knowledge to bring with you as well as new unlocks to look forward to!

It's like if you were to take D&D and boil it down into a format that suits both "pick up and play" casualness and "play for hours on end" playstyles. Found myself playing it for 6 hours straight when I only meant to check it out.

Here's a link to a much, much better review of this game that properly articulates just how great this game is and why:
https://youtu.be/-NiyfG8Ctbo

I feel as though the overall rating of this game is horribly misrepresentative of its quality. I love this game. I think that this game is an incredible masterpiece. Yet I've put off writing a review for it despite my desire to raise its rating on steam, and this is because I've felt that if I'm going to write a review for the game, it has to properly reflect all of its wonderful facets. There is so much depth to NieR: Automata's narrative, and the manner in which it takes advantage of its video game medium is so satisfying. I could ramble on and on in person about how great this game is, but when trying to organize these thoughts into written words, I falter. This game is amazing. End of story.
