Even if you have not played the previous Metal Gear games, you can very much enjoy this. Having played the previous games does improve the experience, but it's not totally required to enjoy Phantom Pain and the game has a way to fill you in on previous events.
Recommend just buying it on sale.
8/10 gud game.
