Early Access Review
Hello, my name is Kepp and I’m addicted to Brighter Shores. Take this review with a grain of salt: I had to sleep, and I’m dealing with Brighter Shores withdrawal symptoms.

This review’s gonna be in point form, because why are you reading this and not playing to form your own opinion?

  • This game is a grind. Be prepared for that and be prepared to use all the in-game mechanics to speed up your XP gains. There’s a few of them.

  • This game is social. I completed the introduction quest and had questions. A mob of players trimming flowers answered me in unison. I ended up on a beach where everyone was fishing and talking and got absolutely sidetracked.

  • This game is cosy. The pace does not keep up with modern MMORPGs, and as a 30-something year old, that’s exactly what I want. If you want spell bars and instant gratification, this is not the game for you.

  • This game has challenging combat… not mechanically… but enemy stats-wise. You are given tools to even the playing field and rewards for taking out enemies that seem far beyond your skill level.

  • This game wants you to quest. Questing is needed to reach the later areas of the game, and the more advanced recipes and crafts in skilling are locked behind those later areas. Questing is not just fetch-quests.

  • This game is in Early Access, and it’s like it was made in the 2000’s and 2025 at the same time. Andrew Gower himself has already laid a road-map of some exciting and needed features that he and his team will be implementing as time goes by.

So, there’s my five cents. Since there’s no micro-transactions in Brighter Shores, buy something nice for yourself and give this game a try.
