This game is amazingly complex and fun especially when combined with the amazing community of players who curate and create their own mods to make the experience even richer.

I've owned the game since extremely early development, before it was even on Steam and I must say the direction and success of Rimworld should make the developer very proud. They've founded and fostered one of the greatest steam communities I've ever seen.

Make sure you check out Vanilla Expanded, and Combat Extended for maximum fun. Also Winston Wave.

The game is absolutely beautiful. You'll find yourself stopping in awe of the artwork and art design. Visually, the game seriously immerses you, in both tense and calm scenes, you feel totally engaged.

The story is 10/10, from the start to finish I was engaged, into it and totally immersed. I usually take a break during game playthroughs but I ended up playing start to finish without realising because I was totally hooked.

All of the characters are cool to interact with, the puzzles are well done and not too confusing. The game mechanics are always fresh and cool to use, and the different story pieces fit in so well you may end up completing them before even realising they are story integrated.

Definitely recommend! 11/10

To start this review, I'd like to make it clear that I don't mind Paradox's DLC Policy and have thoroughly enjoyed Victoria II, Crusader Kings 2 and Europa Universalis IV and have thousands of hours of my life sunk into Paradox, as well as a lot of money from their DLCs. I don't regret any of that.

However, with those games I could launch the game and motivate myself to play for hours upon hours, I could start a game on EUIV and lose the hours of the day and realise I've been playing for 9 hours when it felt like 1 or 2. The game had a flair to it, it had it's own unique feel and warmth. Same with all the games.

But with Imperator Rome, it just feels like they've tried to steal the flair of each game but half-assed it. Every game has its own niche, but Imperator feels like all of them combined, but without the fun of any of them. Resulting in a bland experience without much depth. It's unpolished and doesn't feel like a full release.

If you enjoy the game, all power to you, but the justification that this game will be fixed with DLCs isn't valid when you realise all other games have given a general idea of the basics of the game from release, whereas this one just struggles with it's identity.

TL;DR Buy it in a year or two on sale, with the DLCs they release to actually make this game fun. It isn't worth the price at the moment, or the hype they attached to it.
