Mel Kenny: Can we pretend I've read nothing about you, and ask how you initially got into porn?

Sasha Grey: Sure, I'm sure there will be someone reading this who doesn't know. At seventeen, I was a high school graduate attending college for my first semester. I had recently just became sexually active and shed myself of many insecurities and shame I had about my own sexuality. I started watching porn as a result, and the more I watched, I realised I enjoyed it physically but I felt there was something missing. I wanted to change this dynamic and also inspire people like to not be ashamed of their sexuality.

And what about quitting? You've noted that you didn't want to make an organised kind of declaration when you quit porn, as if that would be like a dramatic renouncing of sorts. Do you mind please explaining this a little more?

I always joked with my agent about how you could never quit porn because my work will always exist somewhere. I didn't want to make a statement about it because it felt so melodramatic.
