The game itself is fun, especially if you have friends to play it in coop with.

Server issues have become way less, and the game was mostly playable. So that is quite good. Leaving my former writing up as well, to document that i was not happy with the situation in the beginning:

With the current server issues and log in problems, you have to be lucky if you can play it at all. So in its current state, it is unfortunately unplayable. Lets hope the server issues get fixed.

You would think the gaming industrie has learned from disaster launches like sim city in the past - but appears it is still all the same. The customer is the beta tester.

Bought this game for the coop-campaign, as coop playable games are somewhat rare. We got really into it and had lots of fun for a few hours. The bad surprise came the next time we wanted to pick back up and loaded into the game. To find out that the coop-guest does not get saved, all their progress, items and money are just gone. According to the devs, this is what they wanted and had planned.

If they don't want to save the coop player, they could have at least "cloned" the host inventory+money to the coop guestz player, instead of starting them over from nothing. Should have been easy to do that, right? Well we haven't touched the game since.

One thing first: I never played any other game of the Metal Gear franchise. So for me, all this negativity i hear or read about this game doesn't make much sense, as i don't have those comparisons or expectations.

I like survival crafting base building games, even better when they are cooperative games. The biggest drawback for me is, that the story mode itself cannot be played cooperatively. That it is just those special cooperative missions you can play with your friends.
But besides that, i like this mix of exploring, finding blueprints, defending, rescuing and other actions. Yes the hunger and thirst meters go down super fast... and especially in the beginning of my game i often found myself more scavening for food/water/meds than actually exploring playing. So that part was somewhat annoying and i was like "thats way too fast, they really need to do something about that". Later on you can grow and breed so much food, your storage is filled to the brink very fast and easily. So thats not a big problem.... only the weight of the food items is bothersome, and how often you need to eat/drink, so you end up carrying loads of it.
The want to have all items/blueprints is what keeps me going, i am the collector type. If you have friends to play the coop missions with (luckily i do), this adds even more to it. Especially as the best of said items/blueprints can only be gotten that way. Without my friends i would hate that part, as it is best to do them with friends you can count on and where everyone has a set role for the coop missions.

With the upgrades and patches, there is still things to do and explore, and we got a new coop mission type just now. So thanks to my friends, and being able to do those, and thanks to the base dig plans, the game is still interesting for me. We will see how it develops over time.
If you play by yourself: the story is still quite cool, and i think some of the better, nicer and more surprising stories out there.

When it comes to the microtransactions: I haven't needed or wanted any of those things yet, so i was not too bothered by them. The only thing that would be nice, would be a second exploration team slot. If the game would give you two of them, and start the transactions with the 3rd slot, i don't think i'd ever need anything. So it is not like they hide things behind a paywall...you can fully and completely play and enjoy the game without spending any SV.

Ok the issues i had with it have been finally solved - it took long, almost 3 weeks. But the Frontier support team actually stayed with it (well the first two times i just got cheap hints and the ticket closed, but then i run into a really helpful person there, who goes by the name of "CMDR Luna" so big shoutout to that guy. You should have more support people like this guy, that one knew what they were doing, compared to the first two.

So i am giving this a thumbs up now, for a good support team! Thanks for helping me sorting out my prolems. Customer service is a big part of the picture.

So the main reason i got this game was the cooperative game mode. Finally a squad based game, that would let you play with a friend.

But this feature was removed, cause it was underutilized! So the only reason to buy and play this game for me was removed. Maybe it was underutilized cause it was unstable, had desyncs, crashed, and had other problems going on? I for sure was hoping that when i read "rebirth" that we could get back into it, finally working.

Yet it tells me "cooperative feature removed".. yay... you just removed a customer and supporter.

Despite the claim that the save game corruption bug was fixed, it is still there. So be prepared to lose all of the hours of gameplay you spent randomly at any given time.

Happened to me, and my friend i was playing it with, within the same weekend. For a game where so much of it is based on your levels and progress, that is for sure a total mood killer!
