You're here because you wanted to feel like something you're not: a hero. I'm here because you can't accept what you've done. It broke you. You needed someone to blame, so you cast it on me - a dead man.

It's like DayZ or Rust but with the sort of blocky retro graphics that have become popular in this post-Minecraft era. I'm impressed by the facts that (a) the game was created by a lone high school student during his free time and (b) he still manages to publish weekly updates to keep things fresh. Full workshop support means that if you get bored with the default maps and weapons and vehicles, there's loads of other possibilities uploaded by other players.

Also, there are now cosmetic item drops, if you really care about camouflage skins for guns. I usually just sell mine in the Steam market. None of it has an impact on gameplay, so it's entirely voluntary.

Even though the game is free to play, I've definitely had more than $5 worth of fun playing the game, so of course I purchased the gold upgrade. (And I've since recuperated that money selling cosmetic items in the market.) The one-time fee allows access to the double XP gold-only servers, as well as some gold-exclusive (non-tradeable, non-marketable) cosmetic outfits and more character creator options.

Like other games of this genre, there is no long term goal other than survival (unless you play on Arena Battle maps). The only real danger comes from other players or bad latency while fighting zombies.

8.5/10 a fun and lighthearted deconstruction of the sandbox survival genre with weekly updates and an involved community.
