Overall Sonic Frontiers is a very good game and is a huge step in the right direction for series.
I ended up putting 13 hours in one sitting because that's how much fun I was having. Going through each open zone fighting mini bosses, collecting memory tokens, and admiring each islands unique environment.
I loved everything about the open zone. The controls felt nice and the combat wasn't hard to learn but I can tell it is hard to master. With how fast you move from one attack to another it can be hard to see when some smaller enemies are about to attack. Difficulty wise Frontiers wasn't that tough. I played on hard and none of the enemies really gave me a hard time nor did any of the bosses.
Traversing through the open zone. hitting all the rails and platforms to get memory tokens was extremely fun. Even after I got everything I needed to progress in the story it was still so fun to free roam and find new ways to get across the islands. It almost felt like a tony hawk game with how well you could chain together different ways to get around.
I will say the pop-ins of some objects are questionable. There would be a slanted boost pad or a small platform just a few feet in front of me and it would load in when I was inches in front of it. The objects in the sky make sense because of their distance and there isn't really anything tall to block them to hide the pop-in. So i'm not really sure why objects that are close to the player aren't loading in unless you're pretty much at it
Another small issue I noticed was that some cutscenes would play at 30fps instead of the capped 60fps. it wasn't any of the main ones just some you can trigger in the open zone.
My biggest complaint is that the cyberspace controls are awful compared to the open zone ones. I don't hate cyberspace but the controls made it frustrating at times to play through.
The story of the Frontiers did surprise me, was it the best story out of the games personally I say no but it did keep me engaged and questioning what would happen.
Sonic Frontiers gets a 8/10 for me, the cyberspace controls are the only thing keeping this from being higher.
