Breathtaking beauty

The moment Geralt on his horse enters the fairytale fortress Oxenfurt, our breath catches. The vast nature that rests against this gigantic castle, the beautiful statues that watch over the city, the Dutch windmills that catch the eye from afar: these are all details that will take your breath away. The Witcher will swallow you up after a few seconds thanks to the breathtaking beauty that resides in the game world.

Torn world

The grand story of Geralt of Rivia, renowned (and infamous) Witcher by profession, culminates in the now eight-year-old trilogy. In a war-torn world, the sulky monster hunter is engaged in a fierce battle with The Wild Hunt, an evil and above all mysterious group of demons who wants to hide the world in darkness. That's not all: in the meantime, there is a devastating battle between Nilfgaard and the Northern Kingdoms and Geralt has to deal with his demons.

The Witcher 3 more or less picks up where the second part ended and that means that many familiar faces return. The sorceress Triss Merigold, enamored with Geralt, and the extravagant poet Dandelion shine again in their presence. They are accompanied by a colorful mix of new, absurd characters, who come to life more than ever because of the new techniques.

Meaningful choices

The Witcher 3 includes hours of highly written dialogues that have been uttered fantastically and with enthusiasm by unknown and well-known voice actors (Charles Dance!). The role of the characters in the story has been broadly framed by the creators, but as befits a Witcher game, your choices also influence this. In the PC version you can even import your savegame from the second adventure - including all the important decisions you made at the time - to the new part.

Exploration pays off

That is different now. Geralt bridges huge distances in The Witcher 3 and is therefore bound by his horse and means of transport. The temptation to just go exploring is great in this RPG. It often happens that you ride your horse through a dark forest or a colorful jungle, until you urge your horse to stop because you hear voices. These could be thieves, hiding in a camp packed with goods, or children who have ended up in an emergency while playing.

At such moments the astonishment could be read from our face. After all, there was nothing on the map. No sign, no clue, nothing. This emphasized once again that the world of The Witcher 3 is full of secrets that you can only find if you travel around.

With this in mind, we have explored the world more and more. Looking for secrets, treasures, supplies and money - a rare commodity in The Witcher. Remember, all of this is just the tip of the iceberg. Even with the main story, side missions and random events disregarded, listing the content is an impossible task.

Lightning fast action

Logically Geralt's range of tasks is not just limited to exploring and driving around through the natural beauty. As 'Witcher', our white-haired friend is regularly asked to do certain 'chores', ranging from defeating grotesque monsters that threaten a village to knocking out a ghost that has been wandering in an abandoned lighthouse for decades. Over the years, Geralt has gained a lot of experience, which means that he can literally cut enemies in half in this adventure.
