This game is one of a kind... it's hard to describe it without spoilers, but you should give it at least one shot.

Finding out about a game from a Geometry Dash level was not how I expected to stumble upon one of the greatest video games ever created. If you liked what the demo has it's worth the asking price tag.

The game itself is excellent but has significant performance issues. Eats up all of my system resources to play the game with near-recommended specs, and while I haven't seen any framerate issues specifically, the game did freeze once likely due to memory issues. Gameplay variety is limited, but what is there is fun, so expect quality over quantity to the extreme. Gold and Ultra editions are not at all worth the money as of this review's date, but catch the base game on sale or wait for new content to be added and you've got a great deal for you if you like 40k.

It's Terraria with mods.
Basically copy-paste any good thing about the base game and add mods to the list and you got your review.

Not worth the $40.
The DLC is noticeably unpolished when it comes to performance compared to the base game. The base game had some lag spikes here and there, but the framerate was stable for the most part and runs smoothly with a decent computer. The same can't be said for the DLC, I regularly drop below 40 FPS and it is very noticeable.
The enemy balance feels overtuned in some areas, specifically with the above average Poise for a couple of the medium-size enemies and awkward windup times for one specific boss and one of the knights.
The DLC's upgrade system just seems redundant. Tougher enemies than the base game, but get some collectibles to make those enemies not as tough on you or your Spirits. Might've been a fun incentive to explore if I wasn't at 30 FPS half of the time.
It is visually excellent, and the new weapon classes look fun at least. But with all the issues present (especially the FPS instability one) I'm not happy with paying $40 for this DLC. It feels overpriced and rushed.
Hoping to update this review once things improve. If they do, I'll expand more about the things I do like.

This game is literally everything I could have ever wanted from a video game. Great Co-Op, fast matchmaking, fun unlockables, minimum microtransactions (you can get the premium currency in game by farming side objectives), and the most dedicated community I have ever seen. I highly recommend trying the game when you can.

Oh yeah I almost forgot, it's also overflowing with MANAGED DEMOCRACY BABY

Update: ...is what I would say if the latest Escalation of Freedom update didn't ruin it all. The new Super Helldive difficulty is a fun mix up to the difficulty adding Automaton Fortresses and Mega Nests, but the new enemy variants on both fronts are absolutely not. The upgraded Scout Striders, Barrage Tanks, and Impalers all turn the game into ragdoll simulator, which is fun the first couple times but very quickly loses its charm when you're stuck unable to control your character as you get comboed by ruthless stunlocks. Sometimes people that play Super Helldive also tend to be a lot more elitist or trigger happy on the kicks, which makes it discouraging to try new loadouts against the hardest the game has to offer. Charger hitboxes have also gotten a lot more obnoxious in the latest update.
I still like the game a lot but I'd discourage any player, new or old, from going past Difficulty 6 until the excessive knockback is tuned down. It's not worth the effort.
Also massive issues with crashes over the last couple patches.

Update 2: We are SO BACK but crashes are still an issue. Play the game, it's fun now even with the crashes.

Incredibly fun and addictive. The price is a little high if you don't plan on playing Double or Nothing but otherwise the game has excellent replay-ability and dynamic gameplay.
The AI also got considerably smarter in Double or Nothing with the Steam release which leads to him being a significant threat and caused some very tense games for me, which made it all the more fun to plan around him.
The biggest draw is definitely the item system as the primary challenge is to maximize item usage to swing the odds in your favor as much as possible, leaving less to luck and more to how well you manage items at your disposal.
Each round is randomized from the shells in the shotgun to the items you get, making no two rounds completely identical. Each round will feel completely unique because of that and so you're left to your witts and experience to find a path through.
Best for if you have around 30 minutes or so to get a couple rounds in. 9/10.

4/5 Stars

Probably the only open-world game on the market that successfully captured my heart in its gameplay. The world is vast and expansive, but has a lot of action and interesting things to do to not make it feel drawn out and boring.
The world itself is beautiful at every corner you can find, the developers really nailed the visual feel of each and every area to make it unique and feel monumental to reach a new area.
The weapons are varied and beautiful. Be it sorceries, incantations, or flashy weapons, you'll definitely find something to pick up and fall in love with.
This game even lets you summon Spirits which can allow you to buddy up with certain entities that would have acted as opponents for you in the past, but can fight alongside you using their Spirit Ashes in areas with daunting enough challenges.
The combat is punishing but (mostly) fair. It's FromSoft's signature combat system that defines their games and gives them that unique form of challenge, and you're sure to like it too.
The only things stopping me from giving the game a 5/5 is the boss difficulty scaling and weapon upgrades. While the upgrade system itself is fine, getting the materials for upgrading can occasionally be a hassle to go through since they can be hidden in obscure and easy-to-miss spots, but ultimately it's a minor issue at worst.
The far bigger issue in my opinion is the boss scaling. Most bosses are very easy with the right tools and equipment until the late game (mostly things you would fight after Fire Giant), and afterwards bosses become extremely difficult to a near-unreasonable degree. Most of the time this works in the boss's favor as you can still learn and master the moveset with enough practice, but I think it would have been better if the spike wasn't so intense compared to the bosses before them.
Overall it's a great game and well worth the asking price of the game. I'd at least recommend trying it out if you have time to invest in it.

Gets you thinking in all the right ways! A great game with philosophical questions, challenging puzzles, and occasionally intense platforming. A fun adventure through and through!
