Hazelight Studios has already established itself as one of the most creative names in cooperative game development, and their latest release confirms that status with a bold, fluid, and remarkably cohesive project. From the very beginning, it’s clear the game knows how to introduce its mechanics without breaking the pace. Each new stage brings its own ideas without feeling disconnected from the rest, and even with constant shifts in style and genre, everything flows naturally. The game moves effortlessly between 3D platforming, 2D sequences, and even bullet-hell segments, always maintaining intuitive and accessible gameplay, making it a great choice even for casual players. The controls are responsive, and there's a subtle level of assistance in actions like climbing ropes or jumping between narrow surfaces, contributing to a smooth and enjoyable rhythm.

Visually, the game doesn’t aim for groundbreaking realism, but delivers beautiful and distinctive environments. It understands that it doesn’t need to be the most realistic game to hold your attention—it just needs to use its artistic direction effectively. A perfect example of this is a side mission where the visual style shifts entirely to something resembling sketchbook art, with an impressive transition from 2D to 3D that highlights the game’s aesthetic care. This kind of creativity isn’t limited to visuals. Throughout the journey, references to other games appear subtly and respectfully, like a mission clearly inspired by Portal and another that pays open tribute to Dark Souls, showing the developers’ deep appreciation for gaming culture.

Even with all this dynamism, the technical performance stands out. Running the game in 4K with everything on ultra, performance remained stable for most of the time, with the exception of a fantasy-themed area heavy in vegetation that was more demanding—but nothing that broke the experience. Overall optimization is strong, especially considering the amount of genre shifts and visual changes happening throughout the game. As for the story, the character development starts off underwhelming, with Zoe coming across as the emotional, introspective type and Mio staying focused and practical. At first, their relationship doesn’t quite land, but as interactions build—especially after a significant argument—the dynamic gains emotional weight. This shift changes how the characters are perceived and adds a layer that was missing early on. Certain side missions reinforce this growing depth, reflecting the characters’ inner worlds through level design and gameplay mechanics.

The game’s highlight, however, comes in the final sequence, where everything clicks into place with surgical precision. The way the camera is used to merge and separate two distinct worlds is simply brilliant. It’s a mix of technical mastery and creative vision that elevates the narrative without relying on excessive dialogue. The world shifts before the player’s eyes, guided by screen-splitting lines that merge almost imperceptibly. It’s a moment where gameplay, art, and direction converge in a visual and emotional spectacle. Josef Fares and his team have created something that’s not only fun but also innovative and artistically bold. Despite a slow narrative start and minor performance dips, the game stands as a cohesive, memorable, and exceptionally well-crafted experience. It doesn’t just deserve a spot among the Game of the Year nominees—it has every reason to win.

Man, what an incredible game. It’s easy to see why it’s regarded as one of—and perhaps the best—Far Cry titles. The beautifully crafted island setting creates a paradisiacal yet perilous world that immediately immerses you, inviting you to explore its hidden secrets.

While the gameplay might feel familiar to longtime fans of the series, this installment serves as a seminal example of the formula Ubisoft. From scaling towers and tracking wildlife to gathering rare plants for upgrades, every mechanic feels meticulously designed to reward exploration and experimentation. Each element not only contributes to the game’s dynamic pace but also enriches the overall experience, ensuring that you’re never bored during your journey.

At the heart of the game lies its narrative, centered on Jason’s compelling character arc. Initially introduced as a pampered youth, Jason’s evolution—prompted by pivotal moments and the insightful words of characters like Liza—is portrayed with nuance and depth. His transformation, though marred by darker turns reflective of his turbulent journey, remains profoundly meaningful. It’s surprising that some players overlook the complexity of Jason as a protagonist, especially when his path echoes that of the iconic antagonist, Vaas. Vaas, with his brilliantly rendered madness and charisma, not only steals scenes but also serves as a mirror to Jason’s inner conflicts, making their intertwined stories all the more gripping.

An additional point worth noting is the technical performance of the game. While it shines in design and narrative, those with modern, multi-core processors might experience performance hiccups. In my case, I had to employ Process Lasso to limit core usage, ensuring a smoother gameplay experience. This workaround is a small price to pay for an otherwise outstanding title.

Overall, the game succeeds in marrying immersive world-building with engaging mechanics and a richly layered story. Its bold blend of exploration, character development, and strategic challenges makes it a must-play, and a standout entry in the Far Cry series.

I found Tekken 8 to be a lot of fun, even as someone who isn't usually into fighting games. This was actually the first game in the genre that made me want to keep playing. Although I haven’t had the chance to play in recent months due to life getting in the way, my initial impression of the game was very positive.

That said, I can’t confidently say how the game holds up today, as there seem to be quite a few negative reviews about its monetization practices. I’d recommend checking out other recent reviews to get a clearer picture of its current state.
