Dawn of War 2 and its expanisons continue the fantastic squad driven gameplay of the first Dawn of War intruducing familiar mechanics which have been polished and refined to the dull gleam of the war filled 41st millenium.

The campaign is solid and introduces an RPG like element in the way you develop your hero units and unlock new types of squad. The joint effect of boosting your hero or holding them in reserve to bolster other squads was a welcome addition allowing you to leave heros you disliked or that didn't fit your playstyle behind, without being penalised for it. Voice acting is solid with some well known names voicing distinct if overtly archetypal characters in style with the setting, and the steady progression of the plot and set pieces doesn't too often detract from the tactical gameplay that this game exceeds at.

Multiplayer is truely where this game shines though, with the introduction of the last stand game mode (now a standalone puchase due to its popularity) you can drop in for a quick match with friends fighting against waves of increasingly difficult enemies and develop strateges as a group before taking your freshly leveled character in with an entirely new set of tactics and abilities. It's beauty is in its simplicity by letting you fight the well known enemies of the series on mass with only one character and your ragtag friends.
More traditionally though the standard multiplayer is also much improved with easy matchmaking and fast paced fights, against human opponents the easy to manage economy shifts focus strongly onto how units and terrain are used meaning players new to the RTS genre will find it easier to start, but leaves plenty of room for more experienced players to experiment with different combinations of units and tactics with a steady metagame evolution making no one tactic the standard play.

Highly recommended to all players of RTS and as a solid introduction for players branching in from other genre's who are interested to see what all the fuss is about.

Eve is a highly enjoyable game but requires allot of effort in order to get the most from what it has to offer.
As many of its detractors point out it can sometimes be considered a second job to many of its players and in some cases this moniker is justified. For others this can be a reaction to the steep learning curve presented by some of the main mechanics and also the sheer depth of the world.

Unlike other MMO's EVE relies almost entirely on its player to player interactions to drive the world. From war to mining everything is done to, for or with other players and it is to the games credit that so many options are presented at each level of play.

EVE is definitely not a game for everyone, but if you are willing to put in the effort and patience required it can be more rewarding and satisfying than many other games of a similar ilk.
