It’s hard to recommend this game because of the way the publisher went around releasing it and its content (and exorbitantly priced DLC), but it runs smoothly and is enjoyable nonetheless

Switched to F2P? Stripped back, then re-released all content as DLC? Re-package and re-release entire original base game as a special edition DLC, at the same price as the original base game? No, well, ANYTHING... for owners of the original, pre-F2P, release?

Fun wee platform shooter, reminiscent of 90s Apogee classics

Single player:

This thing's going to take some getting used to...
Need to figure out a way to tweak the sensitivity on the trackpad, as by default, it isn't nearly sensitive to be practical for any shooter.

Multiplayer/Local co-op:

Only negative criticism is that I can't seem to have two linked to my Steam Link similtaneously. The whole sell point on the Link was couch co op, with compatibility for up to 4 gamepads/controllers.

Going to try to remedy this, but creating a secondary Steam account, registering my second Steam controller to that, and hopefully being able to local co-op as a guest, thanks to the new update. BUT! Hopefully that won't require me to have to be logged into a secondary rig in my network, via a secondary Link, or a dongle, otherwise I will be incredibly annoyed... (and, just go back to an xbox gamepad)

Great, affordable piece of hardware.
Has its limitations, but does exactly what it says it does

TL:DR: If you like Mugen and VN, get it.

Note: at present, on exiting the game, it still stays active on Steam. (nothing a trip to the Task Manager won't fix, but do bare that in mind)

Great 2D fighter, and a great VN mash up game.
The Story isn't particularly great, storyline wise (surprising, being released by a VN studio).
Another Story, on the other hand, is much better written Especially if you're a Lovecraftian horror fan if you're interested in the VN side of things.
In it's defense, although having a better story for each character wouldn't have been an enormous feat, this is primarily a fighting game (Another Story being its VN counterpart, in which you even have the option of skipping the playable fights entirely).
If you're into VN, you should recognise a few of the characters.
As far as the fighting goes, it's pretty stock standard for the genre (no breaking from the status quo on this one, you get exactly what you pay for.

Now, onto the personal opinion portion of this review:

1. If you're going to do a VN Mugen, you need a bigger roster. Even with a small roster, you kinda need Nep-Nep.
I'll settle for Soni Ami, but this kinda needed Nep-Nep...
2. Would have been nice to have had an english dub, for the ingame dialogue, but "meh".
3. I will never understand why everything VN related costs so much more than its western counterpart...

Oh! And, for the fan-service crowd: pretty sure the "DLC content included" mainly refers to everyone having a swimsuit alt. costume

A worthy sequel to the reboot. Looking forward to the next installment

As a fan of the series, this purchase was a must have.
The game itself is stunning, and the combat system is easily grasped.
You're just playing through season 1, I have yet to come across any of the so called "plot twists"
That being said, this game is nowhere near worth the asking price.
It gets very repetitive, very quickly.
I would recommend this to any fan of the series, but would suggest holding off til at least a 25% off sale.
Not playing this game with a gamepad is absolutely not recommended.
Also, the game currently (as most likely for the foreseeable future) does not feature an english dub, us anime fans, we're quite used to reading a lot of dialogue during scenes, but this may be a deterent for some.

It would not be fair of me to give this game a ?/10 rating, as I had high expectations for this title.

It's such a pity this game gets so much negative feedback.

I really enjoy this game.
That said, it's not for everyone. I would suggest watching some actual gameplay before purchasing, to avoid passing up on an awesome title because it isn't what you were expecting when you launched it.

Also, note that there is a mandatory prologue/tutorial mission, before gaining access to both Multiplayer and Story modes. It doesn't take long to complete, and like all tutorial missions, gives you a basic feel for the game's combat and levelling systems. The mission itself takes anywhere between 20-35min depending on how quickly you run through it, plus animated cutscenes on either side of it, so allow roughly an hour of your time, before you really get into the game.

I would definitely recommend players play through the Story Mode (to be fair, I always opt campaign over MP in games. Just a personal preference)

Matchmaking can be a pain at times, but nothing that can't be remedied through Steam or Discord groups.

The only downside to this game is the lack of optimisation.
Any other flaw is nothing more than a minor irritation at best.

There's a terrible self fulfilling prophecy of this game being pushed to F2P, that has marred it since its early days. It's a fate that has become more common than not, among MP focused FPS/MOBA titles. The only way to stop it from coming to fruition is to support the game, its developers, and community, instead of constantly wishing for it to fail, forcing it to the realm of F2P, to encourage a wider playerbase and deeper player pool.
It truly would be a shame to see this gem go.

I don't even know how or where to start this...

I hate giving bad reviews, so I'll keep it short.
Normally, I'd say you got what you paid for, but with writing this bad, free is too high a price to sit through this (Wow... It's really hard not to use expletive deletives when talking about this "VN")

The only "pro" to this (I really can't think of anything to call this that won't be censored out...) is that it's short.
You could probably spam through it with the spacebar, skipping the trashy space-lesbefriend Mills & Boon inspired "story", and finish it in 10min, picking up two achievements along the way - But, believe me when I say that 10min feels like a lifetime...
