This is what happens when nobody shuts down the people in a development team that look at a finished product and say "wouldn't it be great, if?" To the watchful eye, the game isn't a masterpiece. It's a warning.

Those who know, know.

Looks like hot trash. I know it doesn't make sense at first but if you have a really good screen, the game looks horrifically garish. Also, the weird textures... literally everything about the visual design is an ugly mess. Also the account linking thing is rather cumbersome and comes across as pretty unnecessary.

Figuring out how to actually play a match or against a local computer was odd, because I couldn't read the initial 3 start menu options because the font is so stylized in what style I'm not sure. I think it's supposed to be "ubran" but it just looks to terrible to be sure.

Handily the worst game in the franchise. SF5 is wildly superior.

It's a great fighting game, and a solid foundation for the franchise going into the middle of the 2020's. However, there are a variety of rather glaring technical oversights that are currently driving players away at the moment. To name a few: The netcode demands an incredibly low latency connection and if there's any line jitter or packet loss you ability to react craters and you'll just get rolled by attacks that are effectively unblockable and since this is a string based fighter, the defeats often come across as confusing and incredibly humiliating to boot. Even if you decide to stop raging and really learn the game (StarCraft franchise player here, if you know you know) presuming your network latency isn't absolutely fantastic, it's basically impossible to learn against other live players. At least, this has been my experience to so far.

I'll be doing some upgrades to the RG-6 coming into my home, hopefully that can move the dial more towards playable but at this point I doubt it and am performing the upgrades for durability reasons, regardless.

Before anybody says it could be my machine or rate of service.
No. I'm running a 4090 and a 14900KF with my ram speed at 5600MHz.
My connection is rated up to 1Gbps down (however only 20Mbps up D:) and I'm patched directly into a DOCSIS 3.0 modem via a CAT-6E cable. This is pretty high end stuff, for your average consumer these days.

It's unfortunate but this franchise seems to make onboarding prohibitively expensive for the vast majority of consumers. Seriously. I just spent $100 on CoD about a year ago. I'm a father now, I go to try and join an old friend from times of yore less than a year later to be told I need to spend another $100 on an expansion pack that is seemingly still called CoD, is just too much.

It feels like false advertising, honestly. I tuned out of this franchise after the very first Block Ops (solid title) and I honestly regret ever trying to give it more attention than a collection of navel lint.

Take your money elsewhere, Zoomers. Give other creators a chance to tell another super cool story.

The game and engine are some of the most optimized and best looking in the business, however it's nothing more than a pay to play tech demo and if you maxed out Crysis in 2007 you're not seeing anything terribly new graphically. Matter of factually speaking, Crysis has a better physics by such a margin it's hard to say that this game even has a physics engine.

The guns are satisfying too shoot, oddly so. The enemies are incredibly easy to kill: So much so that you're not going to even be remotely challenged if you're a high level FPS player. If you've beat Doom Eternal on Nightmare, I would guess you'll find the gun play incredibly stale: I know I did. I could probably beat this game under the influence of surgical anesthetic if it was left to reflexes alone.

There are no rewards for chained head shots or kills, no interesting execution animations and the enemies, while decent looking are nothing more than a derivative and highly duplicative matrix of material from other more competent FPS franchises.

I wanted to like this thing, I really did: but after hours of being needlessly spit in the face, tossing a bunch of money at it hoping to render it more playable, I can't.

The IP has a lot going for it but under its current management it's simply not playable.

Update: Finally escaped the "noob cage" and the game appears to be beautiful and moderately rewarding: however my initial critiques still stand and the design choices that encumber the player from enjoying the content are probably the worst in the industry. Again, everybody involved in those design choices and matrices should be canned and blackballed. Honestly, while I enjoy the product, as an investor in Sony I'm deeply infuriated. Will be speaking with IR.

Everything is fixed and it's better than it ever could have been. Welcome to the battlefield.
