Let's fix an injustice.

If you're just following the actuality of that game from a distant spot, you might think the community around it is kinda schyzophrenic. Since its release a few months ago, the critics have been all over the place, ranging from best game ever to filthiest betrayal in the history of mankind.

If you're genuinely wondering, which of this extrems the game really deserve, I'll give you a simple answer: the game IS really good. If the pitch of a coop 3rd person shooter with a heavy "Starship trooper" vibe appeals to you, go for it, even at full price (even more if on sale).

Now does that mean the massive backlashes that have recently fallen onto it are unjustified? Yes. No. Depends. Let's just say that no matter which one of those crisis you consider, the proportion, the intensity of totally unreasonable behaviors was way out of line. Some of arrowhead's decision (especially the ones affecting gameplay) were totally legitimate (welcome even) and the player's rant was totally absurd. On the other end, the latest crisis adressed a very poor business decision (which, to be fair, probably emanated from Sony and not Arrowhead) where people would have been obligated to link their Steam and Sony accounts. To be honest, I'm glad that decision has been canceled but I'm also scared that it may lead to some other tantrums from the players, since this one had an effect.

At any rate, the game is very good as it is and it's unlikely that this quality will ever decrease in the future. In fact, depending on what the devellopers have in store for us, it might become even better.

For transparency, I checked the "got the game for free" box but let's just say it was some kind of gift and I have no financial motivation to promote the game.

You'll read tons of idiots nay-saying because "waaah waaah I can't unlock characters when I'm a guest on the game". What they don't mention is that unlocking those characters is a formality that, even in the unlikely case you can't host a game, can easily be done in a few solo runs.
You'll also read a few more tons of idiot complaining that the game is repetitive. A roguelite. Repetitive... Even if such a thing would be possible (a rogue lite with very few gameplay mechanics for example), this is definitely NOT a problem with THIS game. The gameplay is in a perfect spot between arcade and tactical and with the procedural level generation the situations and challenges are varied enough to play tenths of runs without getting bored.

To be fair with all those whiny idiots who ruined the game visibility, let's point the ONE truth you can find their reviews: there ARE a few bugs but nothing major and knowing Amplitude they'll disappear in a matter of weeks.

Amazing aesthetic, both visual and sound, classic but efficient enough gameplay, regrettably poor narration but, more than all of that, WHY OH WHY designing such a suicidal civilian AI?!! I know, collateral kills technically don't penalize you in any way, but I hate being practically forced to be a blind careless mass murderer. I know those are "just pixels" and I wouldn't even mind if keeping my conscious clean would ask me a little more effort than just going through the game killing everthing that move. But here I just have NO CHOICE: pacific characters simply throw themselves in fire lines. Even waiting for an area to be cleared while dodging attacks doesn't work as AI will sometimes come back fleeing INTO the death field...
Again, I'm perfectly aware that this is a meaningless detail to a lot of player but (excuse me for not being a psychopath) to me it's as if a frequently occuring SFX was the sound of nails against a chalk board. I recommend this game because it has a lot of qualities aside from that isolated design flaw but had I known before buying it, it would have been a deal breaker for me.

Okay, I can't in a right mind give a negative review to this, I mean, come on... BUT there's a but. I'm not a zealous audiophile who can only listen vinyl records without bleeding from his ears, yet I have a good attention to details especially for experiences as enjoyable as playing DE. And one thing I can safely bet on is that those aren't the original recording used in the game. Well “of course they aren’t” you’ll probably think: you can’t put music that is designed to be played in a loop or change according to player input in an album… But there’s also some almost indistinguishable changes here and there in style. For example, trumpets in “Whirling in rag 8am” are slightly more reverberated… that kind of little tweaks. Listening to it is like hugging your teddy bear that has sneakily been washed and dried while you were absent… There might be some even more OCD people than me out there so… you’ve been warned.

Cliff Empire is one of those games unfortunately unnoticed by the specialized press despite its surprisingly good quality. Aesthetically humble but still beautiful, with a lovingly cooked gameplay free of any unbalances even if rich. It made me enjoy a city builder, a genre that I usually consider boring. A game to play with a plaid on the knees and a hot chocolate cup within reach.

Cliff Empire est un de ces jeux malheureusement passé sous le radar de la presse spécialisée malgré une qualité générale surprenamment bonne. Ésthètique humble et pourtant trés agréable, gameplay aux petits oignions sans déséquilbres malgré sa densité considérable. Il a le mérite de m'avoir fait aimer un city builder, genre que je trouve assez babrbant d'ordinaire. A jouer avec un plaid sur les genoux et un chocolat chaud à portée de main.

I'll try to be reasonable here: Chimera is NOT a bad a game. But that's definitively not a good one and that is very disappointing when you're an enthusiast of the previous games. Sure, it's cheap but even cheap is expensive when you get something that dull for it. I knew before I bought it that its gameplay would be a lightened version of what we know but "amputated" would be far more appropriated. Your soldiers only get a handful of abilities, half of them being useless... As for the really "new" addition, the narrative aspect that is teased in the trailers, well, I would have been interested... if it has been written with a little more conviction. The characters are dull archetypes half-heartedly throwing lame punchlines here and there while shooting dummies. I had a bad feeling about this games before I bought it. I should have trusted my guts...

Before I start, you guys should know I'm not a med-fan aficionado. I don't dislike the genre, but in my opinion, it is overuse and thus often redundant.
Indeed, some aspects of TW3:WH are very "classic". But that doesn't make it bad and all the eulogies you might have heard or read are quite justified. Here's why...
First, the game is beautiful. That's hardly the only thing a game should rely on to be considered good but that's always welcome among other qualities. I remember that when I began playing, one of the first things I thought was "At the very least, this will be an eye (and hear) candy.".
What makes it remarkable though is how it is written. Even the annex quests, the bread and butter of your badass monster killing (but not flawless) character is delivered in a way that is not boring, and that is much compared to most med-fan rpgs. Of course, one shouldn't expect a deep story with complex philosophical meaning but it's entertaining, compelling and even has the merit of telling you things about fatherhood (a recurrent theme in those last year's games but depicted here with wisdom and authenticity).
Is the game perfect? Of course, no. The gameplay is quite basic, there's some bug here and there if your're nitpicking. But overall it is very enjoyable and a memorable experience.

TF2 a bientôt 10 ans et c'est, à mon sens, toujours le meilleur FPS multijoueur. Même si son suivi par les développeurs a considèrablement diminué ces derniers temps, son équilibrage de gameplay est parmi les plus fignolé du jeu vidéo en général. Et ne parlons pas de sa DA désormais plagiée en long en large et en travers par des dizaines de softs jusqu'à ce jour (quand tant de gens vous copient c'est indéniablement que vous avez réussi).

Avec son parti-pris esthètique original et son gameplay à la fois simple et dense, TFITF est une expèrience agréable qu'on réitèrera avec plaisir de temps à autre. Quelques petits bugs (trés rarement bloquant) surviennent parfois mais rien de dramatique.

Bien qu'il égale la qualité technique et esthètique de son prdécesseur (ce qui est déjà une belle performance), je ne peux pas m'empêcher d'émettre une réserve quand à l'écriture de ce nouvel opus: l'histoire somme toute assez classique de vengeance qu'il nous dépeint nous est présentée cette fois-ci d'une manière que j'ai trouvé légèrement décousue.

Mais Dishonored 2 reste, malgré ce petit défaut un beau jeu, agréable à parcourir de bout en bout.
