Similar to Fallout 3 and Skyrim, you have to accept some of the wonky tech and unpolished AI. I think it takes some patience and a willingess to engage in a narrative, which might depend on your mood. It has interesting and also boring aspects to it - referring to both the gameplay and narrative. Generally, it's good and bad at the same time. I think we can expect more from a game of this nature nowadays, so it's not a 'must play'. Regardless, the creators of this franchise are totally going for something ambitious and special here. Having gotten a glimpse into that experience and some of the origin of the series made it feel worth my time.

Having never played any Deadspace game, it felt reminiscent of Half-life and the Alien film smashed together. The atmosphere and environment art was stellar, filled with detail, dynamic lighting and smoke effects. It's not too scary or predictable, though there are some jump scares. Most of the tension comes from the spooky music, the way the enemies move, and how danger suddenly spawns or flanks you. There's also some great gore scenes. The combat was very satisfying, and it was unique to focus on dismembering limbs and stomping on stuff instead of doign flat contact damage. Overall, it is a very well put together game.

The parts I didn't like were that enemies pop up unrealistically close to you, and is often what's scary - that something loud and dangerous is suddenly right next to you. The weapon system was a little overwhelming because of all the options. You ride in upwards of 100 elevators and manual saving felt tedious as the game went on. Some of the story was nonsensical - worthy of being made fun of. There's some gravity gun-esque gameplay that felt tired and out of place, and sometimes you have to mash a button to get away from an enemy.

The premise is derivative and the combat is unforgiving and tedious.

Besides the art and music, I'm not sure why anybody likes this game. It wasn't fun and it grated on me abnormally quickly.

Bought this on sale. and it was well worth $2.50! I haven't played super metroid, and I'm a bit fledgling when it comes to the metroid-vania genre, but it seemed to stay true to it's roots, and was simplistic and welcoming. The phasing mechanic from background to foreground was really clever. Each boss is nearly the same, but with more mechanics introduced each time, which was pretty challenging to me. Not to compare apples to oranges, but I think I had more fun with this than Guacamelee, another metroid-vania game I really liked.

None of the puzzles got me too stuck and the game was challenging. Sometimes navigating the map was difficult and assessing progress was unclear, but I was able to just keep on pluggin' and got through in 2 sittings. The art was very cool and some of the tech seemed extremely advanced. I can see what the hype was about after all this time. Puzzle games tire me out but I'm glad I played this.

The voiceover was good and I liked the aesthetic but it was ultimately a frustrating puzzle platformer like all the rest. I quit out of angst and boredom.

It has an incredibly dumb story and premise but it has awesome action, sound effects, and tech. The campaign is short, but the pace is laid out pretty well. Cutscenes are brief and to the point, explosions and destruction are everywhere. It's very linear and generic, but it's good fun. I've always appreciated the Red Faction franchise. There are few games where you can just run and smash non-stop and have it lead to success.

The art is cool, it has fun music, and it has some decent humor. It definitely has difficulties with depth perception though. The combat is mostly button mashing but it did have some genuinely difficult parts. Enemies can shoot projectiles and annoyingly stun you over and over. I played it with my brother and it was just OK.

This was much more accessible to me than the predicessor. I was mostly able to make progress without looking online. I found a lot of the game to be unecessarily cryptic and hidden though. The design seemed generally bizzare to me at times. Through trial and error I learned important gameplay lessons that stuck with me, and it required a lot of patience and perseverance.

It was incredibly addictive, totally unique, very difficult - it was like nothing I've ever played.
