It is clearly inspired by Dark Souls and 2D Zelda games like Link's Awakening. The lore is cryptic and a joy to learn. Game progression happens due to you learning how mechanics work. Spoil yourself as little as possible!

The combat is initially tough and dull, but soon becomes tough and satisfying. There is an option to have reduced difficulty and a 'no fail' mode for people just interested in puzzles.

The puzzles, by the way, are immensely satisfying. So many of them are well constructed and leave you feeling satisfied when you get that "AHA" moment.

10/10 game, wish I could forget everything and play it again.

Epic in every sense of the word. Superb presentation and gameplay. You will fight countless amounts of enemies that spam attacks relentlessly, even when compared to the old Souls games. You will still overcome them, and the feeling of accomplishment is immense.

Graphics are the best they have ever been.
Story is obscure and rich as always.
The music complements every part of the epic adventure.
Some fights can feel cheap, but recognizing patterns, weaknesses, and safespots just become more essential.

One of the best games ever made, hands-down.

UPDATE:
Nvm, characters are cool as hell. All around awesome game. Silent protagonist without reason in a game full of dialogue is still weird though.
