Good game, but a lot of the later, harder levels devolve into essentially open areas where you have to just dodge enemies trying to shoot you. This means a lot more RNG, which is frustrating. It seems kinda lazy from a level design perspective, especially with all the creative possibilities this game's mechanics allow, which do still show themselves in many levels.

The first part of the game before Xen was great. Felt very true to the original and would highly recommend that part. However...

Xen was absolutely terrible. I totally agree with the developers that they have the right to put their own spin on the game. Especially given all the effort and work they put in. It looked and felt great, Xen included if not especially. But they just did not do a good job unfortunately.

It was way, WAY too long and as you progress it eventually devolves into solving the same puzzle in different settings over and over. And on top of that nothing seemed to tie together. Rooms where you had to solve the same puzzle 3 times just kept getting bigger and bigger to give the appearance of progress. But it all just felt like I was aimlessly stumbling through each section.

The Xen level layout and usability was also very poor. While the level design looked amazing, the endless and mundane puzzles were very confusing. While puzzles are of course suppose to be challenging, I found that once I finally stumbled across what I was supposed to do next or where I was supposed to go next, instead of thinking "Aha!" I found myself thinking "That's stupid... How was I supposed to get that?". Worst of all it just didn't end. All of this garbage for hours.

I probably won't ever come back to play this game and if I do I will 100% be only playing the part up to Xen and then just switch over to the original for Xen itself.

If I could give this a star/number rating I feel like I would be generous but given that Xen was so long that it felt like nearly half the game, I don't feel I can give it a positive review or generally recommend it.
