Stealthy gameplay, interesting gameplay mechanics you won't find in any other game and a cool story.
Absolutely worth picking up on sale, though imho the full price is a bit steep for a game with limited replay value (it's single player campaign only).

Frostpunk is an absolute gem of a game.
You're put in charge of a distant city out in a frozen post apocalyptic landscape. Though different maps and DLCs will throw different challenges at you, the basic premise is always thus: Survive.
Every city's heart is its generator, which turns coal into the heat necessary for your people to survive. But that generator won't run without coal, your people won't be happy without food and housing, and the weather is only getting worse...
And so you're faced with balancing the need for different resources, healthcare, exploration and research. It's a fun challenge and the game is quite well balanced.

Positives about this game: Amazing atmosphere, great music and artwork. Interesting choices to make during the gameplay, and lots of things you can try out to further optimize your progress. Several great DLCs available.

Negatives: Though you'll definitely get more than a single playthrough worth of fun, the replay value isn't extremely high. And though nearly all the DLC is fun and worth getting, I'll make an exception for On The Edge, which I found to be lacking somewhat compared to the main game and other DLC.

I think frostpunk itself is an absolute gem, sadly this particular DLC not so much. I'll try to avoid spoilers in this review.

In this DLC you get to play an outpost rather than a city. This has a few effects you'll notice right from the start: You have no generator, you don't get to make your own laws (they're passed down to you from that distant city) and you're dependent on trade with other parties for quite some of your resources.

I think in principle the developers were on to something cool and interesting by introducing a type of trade in this DLC. Sadly I think the removal of the generator and the book of laws really hurts the game. Another downside in this DLC is the lack of a build-up towards a big finale. Whereas other parts of this game tend to have you prepare to survive some massive adrenaline pumping storm, in this DLC (without spoiling the details) it feels like it just fizzles out.

Overall I think Frostpunk is a 9/10 game, all of its DLC so far has been great.
Sadly this is the odd one out that I can't recommend.
