A fantastic example of environmental storytelling. There are some points in the world where you just want to stop, look around, and take it all in. The vegetation in particular really brings the world to life, when you see a field lit up by the morning sun as the suns rays shine through the trees, it's quite spectacular.

Performance is great, no issues on my R7 8700G.

I made an FPS by myself and it had more guns in it than BF 2042.

The RTS above all RTSes, made at a time when game programmers had to do everything from scratch, and taken into the 2020s by a dedicated community team. AOE2 is much like the Counter-Strike of RTSes, in that it is timeless, easily understandable, and has gameplay that will stand up to anything released since.

The forgotten empires dev team behind DE have steered the ship in the right direction for 2020 and beyond, by focusing on the new player experience, from matchmaking to some ease-of-use features for brand new players (ie. auto-scouting).

In the meantime, the competitive scene is booming with quick, easy matchmaking inbuilt, and regular community tournaments.

Whether you want to play a game for 30 minutes or sink a weekend into it, AOE2 has options for everyone. Best of all, there is a very strong playerbase, which is essential for a game like AOE2, that shines in multiplayer. My favourite game of the decade.

Back when DayZ Standalone was originally released to Early Access, I was so disillusioned with its development that I ended up making my own survival game. During the time DayZ was still in Early Access, I released my own game (was top of new releases for a few days), started developing a second game, got a new job, and in my spare time have made a v2 beta for my game.

What DayZ has accomplished in that time is nothing short of embarrassing (aside from some improvements, like the rendering system, animations, engine performance). In 5 years they haven't managed to get zombies actually working properly. In DayZ. Let that one issue give you an indication of the state of the game.

Steer well clear of this development trainwreck.
