This game is addicting and a blast to play with friends. There's a ton to unlock from items, to characters, and even in-game lore if you're into that. It's amazing that they can have multiple characters to fill certain roles (like melee, burst, aoe, etc.) and they all feel unique.

Starting off, you will die. Most likely you won't even progress that far. It's fine though because after you get a feel for the game's mechanics you'll be making huge strides in no time. Discovering new enemies, secrets, and places is fun but even when the joy of discovery is gone, the game still manages to retain a lot of replay value. I cannot recommend this game enough.

Now that I've said all that there are a few issues. The biggest issue is the scaling of the late game. The difficulty shoots through the roof the further you go which means that if at any point you miss a step, the run is done. If you're playing with friends this can mean that you just end up going to the next level, dying and watching your friend get more powerful as you get more and more insignificant to the run with no hope to catch up.

Items are also the most important factor in the game. This means your starting character is mostly negligible. This can be a pro and a con in that any character is viable, but this also means that they all end up feeling the same once you have enough items.

That said, I've spent more than enough time with this game to prove that I like it and that it was worth my money. The issues of the game are overshadowed by the insanely fun gameplay, and even when I've unlocked everything I still play more while waiting excitedly for the next update.

Short, but very good. If I had to compare it to something I'd say it was a mixture of Bastion, Shadow of the Colossus, and Megaman all wrapped into a delightful experience. The art is fantastic and looks like it was ripped straight from an animated film. The levels themself feel as though they were made in the Keiji Inafune School of Design. They do a fantastic job of teaching you the mechanics and then increase the difficulty while expecting you to keep up. Once you've mastered the two levels in each section you then fight the boss who takes the mechanics you just learned and throws them at you full-force. Each boss is unique and they vary in difficult, but most importantly you can fight them in any order you want. Exploration in each level is somewhat limited and I always felt like I wanted more reasons to look around, but sadly there are very few extras to pick up in each level. Overall I give the game a 9/10.

Does not have Two-Headed giant mode which made all previous Duels of the Planeswalkers games so much fun.

Beautiful enviornments, an open world wrapped in mystery, and a enjoyable combat system. More than likely you'll be too busy to notice these things as you spit out curses you didn't realize existed. Death will become part of your experience, but do not let that disuade you from playing this immensly rewarding game. Nothing will satisfy you more than the moment you defeat the boss that has plagued you for hours, or sever the tail to recieve your well deserved weapon from that boss that has mopped the floors with your blood. The memories you make in this game will last for a lifetime, and even death cannot spoil that.

Easily the most underappreciated game of it's time. Stuck between a console generation switch, Psychonauts' lack of attention is easily understood, but it's story is not so easily forgotten.
