The original Portal was a good and funny game, but really short, implying in a game that wasn't worth the money.
With two different campaigns for single and coop modes, Portal 2 is way longer and way better in any aspect than the first Portal.
If the first one game was funny, the sequence is even better than many comedy movies, the player is constantly laughing while plays the game.
GLaDOS and Wheatley are superb characters, and I must not forget the cute Turrets.
The game does not present the graphics of Battlefield 3 or The Witcher 2, but they are quite good.

Praised be Valve launching an excellent game, so different from the conventional and mainstream.

Despite the campaign that's just okay(it's really funny at the beginning, like an action/comedy movie but it gets boring from half to the very end, however, the last mission is cool).
What counts here is the online mutiplayer.
The multiplayer is so intense and immersive... 32 players per server, ground, water and aerial vehicles, also, gameplay(4 classes of characters and teams composed of squads of 4 players) and game modes that focus on teamplay, where the objective isn't "see who kills more enemies".
I'm sure that you'll just find something better than this game at the end of this year, when Battlefield 3 comes out.

Hey, Bad Company 2 still is the best one.
At least when measured each at their time of release. Every Battlefield launched after BC2 disappointed more than impressed me. Who would have thought this?
