Short, but very fun and challenging game. Fantastic soundtrack too. Worth the money and hearing "WHERE'S ALL THE CHEESE" over and over

How can you practice to play against dlc characters without paying for them? As far as I see now, you can rack up to 3 rental player tickets for free until august 22nd 2023, so that's 3 hours of renting the dlc character in total for the span of one month, which is not enough time to begin with. It would have been ok if you could practice with the character as a CPU or learn the character guides at the very least, but they don't even let you do those for free either. Your only bet is to hope you can play against the dlc characters online, which does not happen often. This is a pay to win scheme in a ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ fighting game. Unless this sin is fixed and they AT LEAST let you practice with the dlc characters for free without rental tickets or any micro-transaction nonsense, this review stays.

I have to do some more research on the hotline miami lore as so much ♥♥♥♥ is going on with so many subtle/underlying meanings (or that might be just me), but this is such a great ending to an incredible series

Nutshell review:
halo infinite

Extended review: further below vv

Pros:
-They have definitely managed to recover the storytelling from halo 5 that let us down harder than the marines in Master Chief's lifepod. They left it on a cliffhanger, but there's a better chance to a better plot compared to its rock-bottom predecessor, as long as atriox is in the spotlight.

-The multiplayer is pretty fun with the map setups and especially gunplay, the different weapons and quips give more creative liberties from chucking fusion coils like a neanderthal to bullfighting against an energy sword.

-NPC Enemies were pretty challenging (Loved the berserker brutes)

-AI assistants are cool and kinda helpful

-Grunts are still funny

-Grapple hook

Cons:
-The main campaign is severely short, and I still did not feel accomplished completing it on legendary (I'd flex about soloing it but since halo 5 soloing a campaign is the involuntary default). There is arguably more to halo 3: ODST's campaign than halo inifinite's.

-No option of mission select, you can either restart the current mission or restart the whole campaign

-The entirety of the $59.99 campaign's content is it's sawed-off main story and cookie cutter side missions that involve taking out squishy "high value" targets, saving marines, taking back unsc forts made of a single raised platform and some boxes, and taking over banished scrapyards, which was fun until you learn it's just rinse and repeat from the first time on. Want to make it entertaining? Try these objectives using only fusion coils. To say this is the 'biggest halo campaign yet' is just a marketing scheme that only guarantees the physical map of infinite is larger than any halo campaign level individually. Only being on one section of all of zeta halo gets really boring fast. Before halo infinite the campaigns were linear, yet you felt like each level you were in a new place, a new city, a new ring/ark/planet, a new biome, etc. It gets more annoying every time you think about that and remember the name of halo's most recent major title.

-The multiplayer is still just as buggy as it has been since its last open beta. It's season 2 now and I'm still crashing at least once every login and getting banned from custom matches for no reason. I love to watch powerlessly as my game crashes and let my team down because they ended up playing a 3v4 ranked match, only to be relieved that the next ranked match it won't be me crashing and instead one of my teammates. Needless to say, the ranked matchmaking system is still attrocious.

-Disgusting ass rewards system that pits you between mediocre seasonal microtransactions and lame cosmetics you completed over 50 challenges for in the span of two weeks. Free event skins are not bad though, but still too grindy considering it's challenges over xp for a limited amount of time.

Conclusion:
A wholly half-assed game that I can only hope by time will improve once 343 gets its things together.
Until they do that, you'd best hold onto your money until then.

If you rate the game on a binary response format between 'hell yeah, please take my wallet and virginity' and 'I'm not buying digital dogsh*t' only by comparing the number of pros and cons I've listed in my review, your values are just as sorely quantitative as 343 Industries's

One of the few games I've played that veers the closest to perfection, this says and means a lot to me in ways I cannot comprehensively explain
