NBA 2K Playgrounds 2 is definitely a game that has given people mixed feelings, so I'm going to give an honest opinion.
This is a fun game, no question. It builds upon a lot of the features from the original game, but also takes a step back in other areas. The main reason why I recommend against this game has to be the bugs, in particular the bug affect signature moves basically making certain players such as Paul Pierce and James Harden almost unusable.

Many people will point to 2K as the villain and that is fair. But I put alot of the blame on the developer, especially Matthew Karch. Many of the features of this game were supposed to be added to the original, never happened. Karch also said he wanted fewer people to buy the roster unlock, but now there is added grind leading people to want to get it. It also seems like some issues such as communication and honestly a drive to create a great game still linger. Also the community is filled with people who just defend whatever the developer says or does.

Once the bugs are fixed, I think I could recommend this game. I personally am not a big fan of having to level up players to improve their stats as that would make it difficult for local play.

Pros:
- Low price for the game, Roster Unlock, and in-app purchases.
- Expansive roster now including Michael Jordan and Kobe Bryant.
- Hundreds of hours of gameplay.
- Replayability
- Improved multiplayer and co-op added.
- Explanation for controls.
- Game is fun once you are settled in.

Cons:
- Developer red flags such as poor communication.
- Bugs that remain unaddressed. Especially the signature bug.
- Grind as now you must level your players to increase their stats.
- Couch co-op has taken a big hit because players no longer are unlocked at their maximum stats.
- Statistics for many players even at max are baffling. Dennis Smith Jr, Jason Richardson, Steve Francis come to mind.
- Community full of die-hard apologists.
- Game is much slower compared to the original.
- Three point shooting almost useless.

Edit 10/26/18: The signature move bug and some other bugs were fixed, so I can recommend this game.

Edit 8/12/19: The more I have played this game the more the grind has bothered me. I think making it so you have to grind your players to max stats, and there is no way around it I think that is really one of the big things that killed the game. No casual player wants to have to work to get MJ or Kobe to max stats. They just want to pick it up and play. I'm probably considered closer to the hardcore side of this game, but even I just get too bored of grinding.

Do not buy it from steam. I had to wait like 3 weeks but when I got it they said 4-8 days. And the stupid thing doesn't come with something to hold the receiver. Just a money grab. Can't aim with the trackpad, inconsistent.

This is a nice dlc, but it's messed up how they're releasing paid dlc and the roster unlock isn't working.

This is not a bad game but I can't recommend it for these reasons:
1. Grindfest. You're basically suffering on most raids and when you get to the level 20s+ it doesn't even make a dent on XP.
2. Disconnections.
3. Crashes
4. Too difficult, especially starting out.

I feel like this game is very similar to Payday2 but they missed out on the things Payday 2 did well like being able to switch between builds. This game you basically have to grind to get all four classes because your progress doesn't carry over. Payday you also had better experience.

Update: 11/05

They've fixed most crashing, I mean I still suffer a couple of crashes here and there.
Disconnection has also been improved so that's good. And they have worked on the difficulty a bit.

But by far the biggest issue has been left relatively untouched, the grind. The fact that this has yet to be fixed despite it being a known issue since inception is quite baffling. You think people are gonna want to stick around if they have to play the hardest difficulty several times to even make a dent in the progress? Hell no. And the people who continue to act like this is some amazing game are definitely blinding the developers. This game has some potential and there are some weaker games out there, but for this game to reach that potential people have to feel like they are making progress. Maybe if there were more weapons in between the grind would be less unbearable.

They out here trying to be Mr. Krabs. But at least Mr. Krabs has the best food. This is barely passable for a 60 dollar game.

I originally was going to put a recommend until I started playing online. This game is a fun arcade like game, and while I don't like the level of grind at times at least you're not paying 100s for just one legend that will be reset in a couple months.

Problem I have is mainly with the online. The fastest way to get exp after finishing all the tournaments the meta seems to be shoves and threes. The developers claim not to want a dominant strategy yet why are the players in the gold + tier in online all they do is shove as soon as you touch the ball. Can't even shoot, shoved, pass? Guy already shoved to the ground. Then when they have dominant three point shooters they take one step into the halfcourt, three. Rinse repeat. My biggest suggestion would be like a shove limit, if you hit the limit you give up a lottery pick or something every foul.

Edit:
After an update they nerfed the shove move which I like. The rebounding is still broken but there's at least some progress to fix it. Main thing they have to add is the multiplayer coop, I could recommend this after that.

The game can be fun and extremely frustrating at the same time. One match you feel like a pro getting ridiculous stats the next one you get steamrolled 4-0 and it seems like you are getting one shot every time. Biggest thing the game is missing is a sort of damage location indicator so you can at least react if a person is shooting from the back. And then some games it seems like shields are unstoppable, the next like a piece of paper to a gun.

Let me preface my review by saying that at this point in time I am recommending the game because it and its dlc are on sale. I don't have the 1000 hours many reviewers have but I do have over 600 hours spread across 2 years.

This game in my opinion is a very good game. To fully enjoy many of the weapon classes you need dlc but they are reasonably priced during sales. What makes this game good is that there are alot of challenges. You aren't going to get bored playing this game in a day or two. It takes hundreds of hours. I recommend the game because you can enjoy it with people you know or even random people.

The reason I suggest buying it during a sale is because the developers have really taken a turn for the worse and at this stage I do not trust them. Now if they release some quality free content during this spring sale I will edit my review. I bought the Completely Overkill Pack for 20 dollars because at the end of the day I figured it is only coming once in a lifetime right? You buy that dlc and you are waiting for them to give you the secret item. A week later BBQ weapons dlc comes out. Then another dlc. And before you know it six months go by before they release the content you paid 20 bucks for. Really? You had time to make dlc but not content worth 20 dollars? The icing on the cake was crimefest. You get a safe and inside it is a skin. They were supposed to be purely cosmetic but some had boosts. So you can understand my frustration.

However those of you who are looking to get the game will not have to suffer that and with that being said it is a fun game. Get it on sale, get the most bang for your buck (hehe). Because if you buy it and dlc for full price I cannot guarantee that Overkill will make the right decision moving forward to improve the experience. So better to try it free, if you like it buy it for five bucks rather than spending the full 20 dollars and feeling robbed if the game doesn't get better.

Definitely one of the better DLC content wise. If Overkill had included this within the Completely Overkill Pack I bet there would be no 50,000 limit. Perfect for the casual and hardcore players alike. 10/10
