nice chill game, but I find it more often than not obstructing the stuff on screen that I need :<
so it just turns into regular idle game which is a little more wacky to focus and unfocus with how it renders above apps

The single best VR sandbox. And much more!

Stress Level Zero defines the standarts of VR experience with each new game, no exception here. There is no major improvement from BONEWORKS, but I much rather prefer Bonelab over it for little improvements here and there (notably the controls and more weapon variety)

Now to the game itself: It is mostly a sandbox packed with a little variety of activities from the hub, but it also features a campaign

Now, the story here is mostly absent compared to Boneworks. Sure, it is here, it's just not a story-driven game like HL:A for example. The lore goes deep, but it's not the lore that will drive you to complete the game

The campaign is more about presenting the player with interesting situations and it does this alright. The thing it: it's just so satisfying to play with good combat and physics interactions. About the last one..

This game handles physics really well but it's almost too well. Your body physically exists in the world, which means if some limb clips into the wall you won't move until you unclip yourself. You will be unable to move forward if you hold the hand against the wall, as well as you will fall while trying to jump onto a ledge if your legs are in the way and collide with the wall. The way how this game is based around your avatar rather than just the camera position is unusual but it isn't hard to adapt, yet I still would find myself interacting with the environment in a wrong way despite having a clear intention to do a specific thing (ex: instead of pushing a button to activate something you also push yourself against it clearly not having an intention to move youself in any way)

The combat is very decent. Guns have variety, though some are rare to find in a campaign. Pistols, SMGs some of which also come as one-handed sidearms, ARs in different shapes, Pump-action shotguns which feel really cool and powerful in VR. But this isn't the highlight of what this game presents. It has a unique ragdoll system, which really stands out looking back at HL:A which failed to deliver anything even near it. You can grab the enemy, push them away, punch with your fists or grab any prop or weapon to hit them with it. Throw stuff at the NPCs, stab them, knock them over, this is just so much fun

Now, the campaign is short. What's next? Play around with different maps accessable from the hub, but if the campaign left you wanting more this won't be enough. The next step is mods. Ohhhh the mods

The game doesn't feature Steam Workshop support (which is confusing considering the year 2024 or even 2022 when the game came out). Your main source is mods io or thunderstore, one for in-game content download and other for more complex mods. There is plenty of avatars, gun packs, maps, the code mods are even cooler and present an even more unique experience, like the multiplayer mod, spiderman thing, whatever, but MOST OF THE (code) MODS ARE BROKEN! You need to either rollback to older version or use the very little amount of mods that do work with patch 6 as the last one as of right now. Mods io mostly has compatible stuff so anyway you'll have a plenty of stuff to play with

This is a little dissapointing how this game was made with modding in mind after mods for BONEWORKS blew up. Like, instead of implementing cool stuff they sure did implement a lot of cool things but all the other ideas were left for modders. The campaign is an example. It's pretty bareBONES (badum-tss) but could be a little longer considering how short are some of the levels. Instead the devs probably went like "yeah, people will complete it and move on to modded stuff anyway, let's leave it as is"

I'm in love with Bonelab and BONEWORKS and I genuinely think they are the most impressive games VR can offer. I advise you to try both, starting with the last one not to be dissapointed if you play them in reverse order and will miss the many QOL improvements of BONELAB. I didn't really encounter any VR-specific problems, but maybe some people will be a little motion sick, I just don't feel it really whatsoever so I can't judge. Also it runs even on 1060 if you run it on minimal settings but the load times were long for me on HDD sometimes

ps: oh and also I forgot TH E SOUNDTRACK IS AMAAAZING it's like REALLY GOOD and the people behind it even went as far as writing extra tracks that don't play in game but which can be utilized by modders in their maps, respectable move especially with how good it is
