It took me a few attempts to get into Life is Strange. Being in my 40's I kept writing it off as some sort of pretenious teenage angst simulator. I am so pleased I gave it another try and proved myself wrong.

Episode 1 starts fairly slowly and I wasnt such a fan of the american art college life that takes up a lot of the episode. However once Episode 2 hits it just got better and better every episode. After an hour of playing I thought this game was a 3/10. After finishing it I would give it a solid 8/10, Fantastic story and great characters.

This game feels big budget with the Hollywood cast and I really enjoyed the setting and the characters a lot. The story was brilliant and kept me engaged from start to end. There are occasional choices in this one that really did not work well, in particular the cage puzzle which is absolutely awful. Overall it was very good and i'd give it an 8/10.

My ratings for each of the dark pictures season one games:

Devil in Me 9/10
House of Ashes 9/10
Man of Medan 8/10
Little Hope 7/10

For me, little hope is easily the weakest of the four games in season one. I did not enjoy the setting or the characters very much. However the strong monster design kept me engaged and it was overall an enjoyable experience.

I wasn't expecting much with Man of Medan but I was presently surprised. I think what holds it back the most is the slow start. However once it gets started it has a fantastic setting and is a scary experience.

House of ashes has the most unique story and setting of the four games and is probably most peoples favourite. The characters and monsters are particularly good in this one and along with that setting make it a memorable experience.

The devil in me is my favourite from season one, just edging out House of Ashes. It's the most ‘game like’ of the four with more actions required and movement of the characters available. The setting, story and background information you slowly pickup through the game were fantastic and kept me hooked.

It's basic but it's cheap and fun.

The crafting system keeps you hooked as you upgrade your armor and weapons throughout the game via all the random items you find.

The end fight was quite annoying but other than that it didnt outstay its welcome.

I played all the other expansions back in the day but missed Soulstorm as I had moved on to something else. Playing it in 2024 its obviously aged but it was a lot of fun to get back into dawn of war.

Despite its age the gameplay loop of Dawn of War 1 cannot be denied. The micro-management of an army while also building and defending a base should never have been removed for the sequels.

I'm not a fan of the campaign skirmish battles in this expansion (and dark crusade) and would much prefer set maps and missions like we had in the original game and winter assault. Despite this, the stronghold missions really save this game. Every single one of them is a fantastic hour-long epic struggle. If they had done away with skirmish maps and made every campaign map to the quality of the strongholds, this game would be held up with the command and conquer and warcraft series as the greatest RTS ever made.

If Dawn of War 1 was remastered today it would sell very well indeed. I have no clue why the publisher has not already worked this out.

Please be aware that this game is currently broken on Steam. After launching it states, "updating executable" and then does not start.

This can only be fixed by getting a copy of the GOG executable and replacing the steam version in your installation directory.

With that out of the way I got playing and did not enjoy Just Cause 2 quite so much as I had hoped.

The game has that third person “Xbox 360” look and feel from around 2010. A bit like Resident Evil 5, which I don’t like very much, and I struggle to understand why.

At the time this was probably quite innovative, and it is no doubt still a great sandbox to play around in if that’s what you want. However, I prefer games with good stories and the story in this takes a bit of a back seat to the explosions and stunts.

Absolutely loved this game. I’ve played most of the GTA style games and I would say this is my second favourite after GTA 5.

It’s also 10 years old now and still looks great once you adjust to the extremely close field of view. The same can be said for the controls and the driving. At first it does not seem so great, but you quickly get used to it and its responsive once you work things out.

The focus on melee combat is excellent. This game has so much melee combat it even feels like a 3D evolution of the old 16-bit beat-em-ups like Streets of Rage.

The story is first rate and kept me engaged from beginning to end. It’s just a shame there is not a sequel as this is a fantastic game.
