One hundred and ten years after this game is set, I sat down on launch day and I played. I played until I finished the game. It was that good.
I must admit, I've been following the development for a lonnnng time and eagerly awaiting the release.

I was completely wrapped up in the game from start to end, running into new challenges at every turn. There were so many surprises and secrets and I can't wait to return to it and find even more.

There's a stunning amount of beautifully crafted 16 colour EGA pixel art, and a gratuitous, enormous amount of dialog to explore and many interesting characters to learn about.

If you're a fan of adventure games, this is really one you should check out. Julia has absolutely outdone herself. If you're reading this, wishlist or buy the game now. It's great.

This game is mind-blowingly-excellent.
If there were a curriculum of must play games for people who are passionate about games, The Witness must be one of the top 5.
This game requires attention and engagement unlike many other games. There are layers of detail and subtext interleaved within the gameplay and the environment. If you play through the game more than once, you'll see something new each time.
This is a truly valuable contribution to the art and industry of game design.

This is a fun 2D action/stealth game with some very satisfying gunplay and multiple routes for every mission.
There's enough here to keep you entertained for many hours, and then there's the challenges for achievements and the new community levels thanks to Workshop integration.

This game makes me wish I could remove games from my library all together.
The games controls are horrible, and what little gameplay there is - it's extremely lacking.

Even the core ideas are poorly executed. It's supposed to be a satire and anti-censorship driven gameplay, but it completely lacks subtlety. The humor lacks the kind of intellegence required to cut through the ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ and make you really laugh.

I recall enjoying this as a fleeting joke among friends when it came out and was marginally relevant, yet I remember thinking the game felt and looked incomplete and incompetent. Looking back with some perspective - it's still the shambling husk of what might have been a game. Certainly even less of everything it aspired to be. It hasn't aged well.

As a historical artifact it may hold some value with respect to the political landscape at the time and the effect it had on games - retaliation against the censorship of game content, et al. But it's a seriously boring game with some of the worst gameplay of its day.
