It's very similar to Terraria. You find upgrade materials, improve your equipment, passive tree, and base. Then fight bosses to progress your game.

I found the bosses to be a mixed bag, some of them are fun, some of them feel like you're supposed to use cheese strategies to defeat them, which I did not like.

All-in-all it's a decent game that still needs a lot of work. It's worth picking up if you're a fan of Terraria.

TLDR; Only for ARPG fans

Last Epoch does everything right from a gameplay perspective. Satisfying gear crafting, a comprehensive loot filter, builds that are complicated enough to be engaging, and an interesting and expansive end game. The dev team is extremely responsive to the community, and receptive to improvement suggestions as well.

However, the story/campaign is dog poop. I know most arpg players won't care about this, they'll simply rush through it so they can get to the "good part", the end game. However, if you want to co-op with someone who doesn't play arpgs, this is not that game. And that's okay.

Seriously?

The game itself has some awesome animation, cute pixel art, and a fairly fluid combat system. It also has an interesting idea, where half the time the game it's a rogue-like adventure, and the other half it's a merchant-management game.

The issue I have is with the merchant management part of the game. The UI is TERRIBLE, and not simply minor annoyances. It's a complete deal breaker. It's frustrating, and inexcusably bad in a game mode they RELIES on a good ui. I don't know why people say "just use a controller". I did, it still sucks. You have to constantly swap between menus, information that should be displayed easily isn't, and using page scrolling to find 1 item among hundred should be considered torture. It's a mess.

It would be fine if I could ignore the merchant aspect of the game, but it's not a minor part, it's HALF of the entire game. Nope, nope, f-that, I'm out of here.

It's a great roguelike shooter, with satisfying combat, great music, and unique bosses.
